Van drivers, do you usually park in the front lot of the truckstop or usually in the lot of Walmart/Target/Meijers/etc or usually somewhere else?

Truck stop hopefully a J. I used to do the walmart thing but like meeting other drivers and that is easeir to do at truck stops. Also the J is the only good shower deal for vans. Yea I know TA came out with their expedite king cazrd but IMHO it stinks for vans.

As busy as it has been..I usually just drop and stop..closest parking lot no matter where it is...
If it looks like I maybe a while...then I might go to a J or expediter spot where vans congregate...

As a solo right now though..there is no time to mingle have to stay currant on sleep and be ready to go...there will be lots of time to talk when it slows down again.....
It is time to make money, not idle chatter...:D

Usually when on the road I'll use CLC card. However there has been times when that is not an option, so I'll stay at the nearest Pilot.
Back when running for Fedx CC I stayed at any travel center except TA.

In order of frequency: 1. Truck stop 2. WalMart or Meijers 3. shipper or consignee 4. rest area.

I avoid Target and other stores that are not open 24 hours where a curious LEO or overzealous 3rd shift stock person may wake me up.

I usually park in a J as well.Shade trees are great, and truckstops need more of them in all areas of parking.I want to devise a type of portable, removable, canopy that can be attached to the side of the van temporarily. It would provide a nice shaded area and protection from the rain while the side doors are open.Thought of bolting a couple of oversize load flag holders on the bottom of the van to put some conduit in to hold the canopy up. Any ideas?

At the J, maybe a Pilot. I will park at the customer if it looks to be in a safe area and I want to be unloaded/loaded first thing.

If I am awake and on a day layover I will find a Panera Bread...I hear their new logo has a blue Ford in it.

Someone's home is first choice. A 24 hour Walmart is usually the best alternative. I thought most Meijers didn't like overnite parkers? I really don't like listening to other people's music when I'm trying to sleep, so anywhere within earshot of a truckstop fuel island, I'm avoiding. Rest areas are near the top of the list for overnite. During the day I look for a local library or bookstore or metro-style park. The bookstore is usually near a panera.

I park anywhere with a clear view to the south so I can get a signal from my satellite dish. That usually isn't a problem at most of the truck stops or Wal Mart stores.

I am presently not driving. When I was the farther back the better. Find a corner where the big guys couldn't fit, weather permitting leave the back door open & the dogs could come & go as they pleased.

Heads up parking in BELMONT NC the exit pass the scales south on 85 Charlotte- TWICE in a four year span the Mayberry police Barney-Guber and PORKY came thru the back door "suspicious vehicle " same plate-@ a new WALMART- just last week while I just nodded off asleep, after running all night! Woke-up and held in the parking lot @2pm until the FBI NC GA criminal back ground check came back- 2 cop cars - lites a flashing both times! I explained once released that it's called "ventilation" with the rear door opened- never going to layover there again-- They logged everything.

To sleep in, I try to park at the nicer hotels. My guess is that the clientel of those places are less likely to want to break into your vehichle. Even though I'm in there, they don't know that.

Also, by doing this I get to tell my friends that my job allows me to stay at the finest hotels in the country. I just don't tell em I'm out in my van sleeping in their parking lots.
