Who gets to decide what an individual NEEDS when purchasing coverage? The government or the individual? Is there ever any good in removing the freedom of the individual to choose what coverage they need? Is there good in requiring individuals to purchase coverage that there is no medical or science based need for? Is that right? Is anything worth that much loss of freedom?

Many would say yes as long as someone else is paying for it.

Yup ... thoroughly cornfused on NEEDS vs. WANTS ...

Can you elaborate your opinion further? He is saying that a woman in their 60's no longer needs maternity care. Why do you think that is confusing needs versus wants?

"Need" should ONLY be determined by science, medical necessity and actual physical need. People without children should not be required to have pediatric care, of any kind. People who are not capable of getting pregnant should not need coverage for birth control, maternity care, etc.

People should ONLY buy what the NEED, or want. There is no valid reason for government, at any level, to interfere with those choices. IF they CHOOSE not to cover what was NEEDED, and they end up needing it, THEY should pay for it, or not get it.

Men can't have babies. It is beyond STUPID to require MEN to have coverage for an impossible thing.

When we were of child bearing age, we provided coverage for maternity. We had coverage for OUR children. That is the RESPONSIBILITY of an adult. Today's adults seem to need to learn that idea, that THEY are RESPONSIBLE for THEIR lives. IF they refuse to take responsibility for THEIR lives, THEY should have to accept the burden of their own laziness.

We have OUR responsibilities for OUR age. Our ability to meet our own needs, and responsibilities is being greatly reduced having to pay for OTHER's responsibilities.

That is WRONG!

You either did not read the article or are incapable of understanding how insurance works. Or, perhaps, you want nothing to do with any sort of cooperative society.

It's a combination of public and corporate welfare. The reasons were because it's for the greater good to make everyone pay for other people and to help insurance companies make money.

My wife has LOST her insurance because of this. I wonder if any of those who PUSH this stupidity are willing to pick up the cost? We cannot get Obamacare, our income is TOO LOW! I DEFY anyone to justify what is going on.

Here is the thinking, Suzy cannot afford her insurance, Sally, and the majority of everyone else can. The government solution? Make the cost out of reach for Sally, Suzy, AND the rest of the majority. THEN, put everyone on welfare.

Socialism sucks.

Nope, it's wrong. I want each to accept the responsibility for THEIR lives as we did our's. WHY is that SO hard to grasp?

NOW, we are NOT able to cover OUR needs, because we have to cover THEIRS!

Yes, I understand how insurance works, which is why we ALWAYS had what insurance we NEEDED at the age we were at and handled our OWN responsibility.

NOW, we need geriatric care, long term care, due to advancing age, NONE of that is required for those who are not of that age.

YEAH, this sucks.

People who do not own, or drive cars, should be required to buy car insurance, regardless of age. It's only fair.

I find it hard to believe that you've never been covered under a group insurance plan.

You know, the type of plan that covers large groups of people and spreads the risks and expenses equally among all participants.

By the way most group plans provide maternity care for all participants. Yes even men.

Group is different than the government outlawing policies. AND, for the vast majority of our adult lives we have either paid all, or most, of the cost of our insurance. On top of that, many want it for FREE! At least in Europe EVERYONE pays taxes to cover socialism. Too many freeloaders.

Like when I was laid off when we had our first son, I paid 100% of that. WE fed him, WE paid for his DR care, WE bought his clothing, housed him, bought his glasses. NO help from others, WE EARNED our way.

Now explain, how is it MY responsibility to pay for someone else's lives? Should they not cover their own lives? I will never have another child, can't happen. No need for me to cover those costs. I have different needs, and priorities, at this stage in life.

How can I cover those needs and responsibilities when it is no longer legal to do it? We are NOT able to buy insurance due to Obamacare. Our income is TOO low. Our $243, give or take, per month BEFORE Obamacare, is now more than $1800 per month. We USED to have access to over 200 policy choices, now there are 20. We USED to be able to cover the risks we face, now we cannot.

Does that enhance freedom or liberty?

No one has ever answered this one, why is it that everyone, and I mean everyone, no freebies, have to pay for long term care, geriatric care, nursing home care? Why is that? I guess it's not a level playing field. Not much risk sharing there.

It is a article from MSNBC from a guy who had a lot of liberal/left pieces. He has since past on. His article leaves out anything to do with personal responsibility, but that is to be expected. His article also assumes everyone has "skin in the game" and you spread the risk for all. That reality isn't currently present. You have to raise rates considerably to cover those that don't pay. It is a simple socialist concept.

The only winners out of it is politicians and the insurance industry. We even get to pay twice. We give billions to the insurance companies and then provide any money to them if they sustain a loss. Whole thing just seems awesome.

"Raising rates to cover those that don't pay" is the rationale for pooling the fuel surcharge, too, lol.
Funny, LOS didn't peep over being forced to pay for workers comp insurance, which is much worse than Obamacare. I've paid a lot into it, for others to benefit when they get hurt, but I've never got a penny back for not needing it.
I was just wondering: if you file a workers comp claim, do they raise your rate, like car insurance does? And aint that a racket: raise the rate because you got a speeding ticket?! Insurance companies rule the US, I swear.

There is a big difference between being in a group plan through your employer where you have a choice to participate and the government forcing people to buy it.
