In a clash between beliefs and rights, beliefs [which may or may not be based on reality] must be trumped by rights

Ohhhh, so the right to choose whoever someone wants to perform a service, even if the provider would rather not, has to be upheld because it's their right to choose that service provider but the right of the service provider to say thanks but no thanks must be trampled because rights only belong to one group and are unidirectional. Got it. The service providers are just members of the wrong group so they have no rights. Hmm, well too bad for them.

The right of a member of the public to avail themselves of a service offered to the public at large is the issue. If a service provider wishes to serve some of the public, but not all, he needs to become a private service provider. He/she has that choice, same as everyone else.

In my America you do not have that right. You cannot say no blacks, jews, gays, irish, etc.
You are welcome to live in my America.

In today's America we no longer HAVE rights. We are TOLD what to buy, or not to buy. We are FORCED to provide charity, whether it is needed or not. No longer can we hire the "best Man" for the job, now we must hire by numbers. We are FORCED to pay wages that are far too high for the task at hand.

YOUR America is becoming more and more like the Soviet Union with each passing day. YOUR America discriminates against hard working people, punishes their efforts by taking the fruits of their labor, by force, to reward the sloth of others. We are FORCED to hire people who cannot understand the language that is spoken by the person hiring. Who cannot read written word. In YOUR America people who exercise their "natural", inalienable, right to self defense. are demonized.

YOUR America HATES freedom, HATES those who work hard, HATES success. Hope you like it.

Now, now, its only 2 more years for change and transparency. Now where did we hear that word, open door meetings, where is the outrage now....

I don't think he does. He thinks people providing a service to the public have an actual "right" to say thanks but no thanks. They don't. So he begins with a false premise.

Something like this case will eventually get challenged. Especially if they use some of the arguments out of the recent Hobby Lobby case.

While all valid arguments (and i agree with you on some), they are not what we are discussing in this thread.

They don't even have to use the Hobby Lobby arguments. If Hobby Lobby refused to sell crafts items to gays, they'd be in as much hot water as The Hitching Post, and they'd lose their case just like The Hitching Post will, or rather, would have, had they not refiled their business as a religious corporation. The Hitching Post is a retail wedding chapel which provides marriage ceremony services to anyone with a valid marriage license from the state. However, they refiled their business as a LLC in Sept 12, and on Oct 6 signed a business operating agreement (written by no doubt a top-notch lawyer) that states:

"The Hitching Post is a religious corporation owned solely by ordained ministers of the Christian religion who operate this entity as an extension of their sincerely held religious beliefs and in accordance with their vows taken as Christian ministers. The purpose of the Hitching Post is to help people create, celebrate, and build lifetime, monogamous, one-man-one-woman marriages as defined by the Holy Bible.”

Which gets them in under the religious exemption of the law. If, however, they ever perform a non-religious ceremony, they lose their religious protections. And it's why photographers, florists and bakers can't use a variation of the above as a basis for discrimination, unless they're willing to severely limit their services to strictly religious services.

Although the Hobby Lobby religious exemption doesn't apply to this case, the cases to which it will eventually apply are going to bite some people pretty hard. They cheer the decision as a victory for religious beliefs, because the religion in question is their own - but one day, it won't be. So far, the only religion whose followers will file lawsuits and go all the way to the Supreme Court is Christianity, but when the Muslims, Jews, Hindus, & others decide to use the same strategy to have their "sincere beliefs" validated, it's going to get real.

Very true in that the exemption doesn't apply, but I see them attempting some of the same arguments. The way courts rule nowadays, it is hard to say never on anything.

But religion is discriminating against the gay population. .pushing the religious views on them..denying them legal marriage on the grounds of being against there teachings..
Marriage is 0.0% a religious act..it is a LEGAL CONTRACT..period..I can go see a judge and be LEGALLY married with 0.0 religious involvement. .religious involvement is a choice in a marriage ceremony ..not a requirement ..
I'm not real jazzed about the word god is in my pledge of allegiance. .well religion pushed there way in that one..they are trying real hard in gay marriage to get there way to..

Then. Get. Married. By. A. Judge. Or. Mayor.
