Racist observation

Is the following a racist observation?

I have been following a lot of the midwestern floods as Grace and I have many friends in some of these regions.

What I find of interest is that in the midwestern floods, I have heard no cries for money cards, free food, FEMA trailers, and guaranteed employment and relocation fees to other locations.
Amazingly, there hasn't been one report of looting.

Compared to Katrina, I am wondering if Barber (MS governor) called NO residents a bunch of babies seeking entitlements on everything. He took some major heat for those comments, but quite frankly, I think he may be right.

It is really sad when I start looking at the two situations.

Was curious as to others observations.

Clarksville, Mo is a small town about 15 miles north of us. They were on the nat'l news this morning and the local news every broadcast. The only thing these townfolks are asking for is sandbagging help as they try to keep dry. Iowa was particularly hard hit by flood waters.

As Black Sheep mentioned, all this extra water is flowing south and will be cresting in Mississippi and Louisianna late next week.

Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Give him a fish every day and soon he thinks your fish are his fish.

Don't get me started on South Lousiana! I was born and raised in North Lousisana, we are considered a whole different country compared to South La. which lately is not such a bad thing! I am sure the Mayor of New Orleans would consider this as a racist observation, but who really cares, he has his "chocolate city" back!!

Give a man a fish and you feel him for a his fish.

What if I give a woman fish?

After the Red River Flood of 1997 or was it 98', anyway many people in the Grand Forks, ND area tried to send back money to the government money left over after repairs were made.

Curious, Cal... what's your opinions of all those Californicators whose houses were bulldozed by mud? Do you think they should've gotten the gubbermint assistance they did; even tho they were above poverty level?

Dave,

The liberals will never get it and the conservatives understand and agree. It's a very valid commentary primarily on conservative/liberal.

oh, oh....sounds like that makes me a conservative...JuJu will be real happy....I also think of Greensburg Kansas...Those are some resourceful people....rebuilding thier town and not a peep...It's hard not to think racist....

Why doesn't someone come right out and say it?

It's mostly the blacks that are whinning and crying waiting for the government to clean up the mess in NO....do you see them in there with hammers and shovels? Are they at least TRYING?

NO.... Some think the whites owe them something....They knew a storm was coming lots of noticed and they stupidly stayed. On the news shots how many whites were looting and robbing htier own kind?

Interesting question Hawk. Let me give a little perspective if I might.Daves honest question had to do with race,as I recall. Is it or not, he ponders ,a racist question. As far as the mountain that came down on the small community near Ventura ,these people took a calculated risk by living there. They knew the odds and gambled. No insurance and no government money is what the were promised, and thats what they deserve. Nada, zippo.

With regards to the assumption that the "looters' that Fox looped over and over and over (the same looters) and over, and over represent all blacks,or those living in the Mississippi delta is what usually drips off this forum from small minded, big belt buckled scared of their shadow "troo Amaerrrikans'ss". Give me a break Hawk.

My lovely immigrant (now citizen) bright, beautiful Asian wife has made so many excellent ,and innocent, observations about Americans in her 5 years here she should be the one writing the book.
Since her arrival she has worked almost every day. She was not rich in China, but worked hard and contributed to the welfare of her whole family. Don't worry, she ain't no commie, socialist what ever, just a person with a good heart that cares about her family.
She has observed that there are soooooo many Americans of the white persuation that simply would rather collect food stamps and complain that the available jobs are beneath them then go to work.Christ, these people speak English, something that has taken her 5 years to become just bearly litereate at and it baffles her. I try to explain to her that they are just lazy, but it falls on deaf ears.
In China, there are 1.5 billion people with not enough jobs to go around.
They line up for blocks to work at KFC, or Macdonalds.
My point is,we can take all the pot shots we want at the looped looters, and make assumptions about charector and race, and I can show you pictures of lynch mobs in San Jose who publiicly hung a 16 year old black guy in 1947 for walking to close to a white woman and her daughter. The people on this site are to smart, and don't realize how much they have. If being a political smarty pants is so important, why are we discussing matters of who loots and who's lazier, whites or blacks and the rest of this non sense.
Personally,I have a far lower tolorance for the stars of COPS, fat ,ignorant southern white tailer trash that seem to populate every corner of the south, then I do for other's with perhaps something resembling a social excuse for their lot in life.

Tallcal...when the recession of the early 80's I was the only white out picking cherries, pears, apples for fruit farmers they wee almost shocked I lasted the summer....no white guys wanted to do that work...just collect the welfare check and drink beer...in the northeast you can't find a white guy to clean a toilet...seems to be geographical.

Since this thread was first started, we have all seen quite a bit more footage of the flooding in MO and IA. How does this compare with the footage of the flooding in New Orleans? Maybe you've even heard the MO and IA residents praising the work FEMA has done in response to this disaster. Do these people possibly have something in common with the good people of Mississippi? For those of you in CA who have never been to Miss, it's not race, because the percentage of blacks in MS is pretty much the same as LA. What they have in common is their ATTITUDE. They are committed to taking care of themselves, and not waiting for the govt. to come rushing in with more welfare checks and debit cards. There has also not been any looting reported either - maybe that has something to do with their culture and their values. Certainly different from those displayed in New Orleans in the aftermath of Katrina. The conclusion to drawn from this comparison is that New Orleans is/was a prime example of what happens when the govt is allowed to literally take over an area and turn it into a welfare state. The people willing to take advantage of their opportunities will leave to make something of themselves, and the human debris is left behind to complain about everything that's done for them and re-elect Ray Nagin as mayor.

Look at the red/blue of the 2000/2004 election and compare that to who holds their hands out palms up while complaining about FEMA and whose hands are full of shovels and sandbags. That should give a pretty clear picture.

Very interesting comments. My observations based on my own personal visit to the region, and my brothers Coast Guard unit which was in AL and MS.
My observations are not based on ALL persons from either region, but on the apparent majority.
Just calling it like I see it.

Sorry Tallcal, the media is to blame for all of this by promoting the victim mentality and telling people that because they are of a different color than the majority, they are not at fault for anything that happens to them.

In the case of Katrina, they were the first to jump on the blame train, they reported some of the more insignificant issues that plagued the effort and to this day they have yet to call to task the person who is actually to blame for every death in N.O. - Ray Nagan.

See Tallcal, when ever N.O. is brought up, it is brought up as a place we can’t question with a leadership that is above the rest of us. With his chocolate city comment, there should have been an outcry from the entire country over the money we gave them – YES we gave them, they did not earn or deserve our tax money with such a racist attitude. If he can’t represent an American city, then he should not get a dime of our American money.

But also Tallcal, our country is resilient, we have had disaster after disaster and always pulled out of it but here we are still hearing about the trailers, about the houses that are not being torn down because the city will not allow the owners to tear them down and even the UN is investigating whether a housing project which is mold infested, should be torn down to make way for a new one – all this madness and they still reelect a mayor who killed his citizens by refusing to move people out of the city. I can’t understand how two 14 year old boys can steal a bus, get people loaded and drive them to Houston when the Mayor who has all the keys to the bus lets over 100 busses get destroyed while he gets his family out.

We have a half city, a city where I will go if I have to but I and many people like me will never go to be a tourist, they got my money already and gave me nothing but grief in return. If there is another hurricane, the city will not survive and the musician’s parks and free homes will get washed away, but that won’t be their fault, they will still blame Bush for it.

By the way Tallcal, no one made it a black issue until they, the people of the N.O. did. It was an American issue until that point and one of the biggest turn offs in American history over helping fellow Americans.

Dave, you really got me going with that one.
I was in Mississippi last October for a week. One of my good old friends from my music days,Chris "Easter" Etheridge, former bass player for The Flying Burrito Brothers, and The Byrds(Sweethert of The Opera album)lives in Meridian, home of Peavy Amps. Been there many times. So please, don't assume I've not been to the south. I toured the South for 3 years and love my southern friends of which I have many. You don't really know much about me,you'll have to buy the book. if your curious.
We're on fire, and I'm not joking. Smoke is thick in the air and Arnold came up and freaked today. Northern Ca is really going up in flames right now not getting rain in 4 months.

One of the differences is that MS has more poverty than LA, and they both got hit the same. The difference in how they reacted afterwards is really the big difference.
MS and AL actually had some leadership to get things done and a totally different attitude than what we saw in NO.
You are seeing that same attitude in the Midwest with regards to the current flooding. The Greensburg tornado situation was a great example of a recovery. They have been spending a lot more time rebuilding, rather than complaining.
But Talcal, I will meet you halfway.
You tell me the difference between the results of NO and the results in MS? If you have been there, then my question has been answered.
With regards to the CA fires, I think you are in for a long summer.
Oops....probably should add that we have a place in TN about ten miles from the MS line. Probably a little different than than just a visit. If you are here more than that then I may run into you at Tunica. My little Vegas fix when I can't get out west.
