Prime to buy Landstar

Our E-unit brokered a Landstar load out of Florida going to Ny. Well, the driver was held up at the pick up and called back to what he thought was Landstar and they thanks for calling Prime. My driver said "I was calling Landstar not Prime, how did I get you?" The Agent on the other end said Prime is buying Landstar. I was like REALLY when he told me. Has anyone else heard this?

Dave,
Sounds like BS.

It would have been news to a number of agents who are part of the glass house in crowd and filter through the channels.

The agent is most likely one of them who deal a lot with prime and put the load out on the LS load board.

Beside I think Landstar's revenue is three times as much as Prime's.

Landstar is considerably larger than Prime. They have their hands in too many other things for this to be believable to me.

They better have deep pockets if that is what they intend to do.Last I knew, Landstar had over 10,000 trucks in their system.

Landstar does not own the trucks they are all owner operators as for the trailers not sure if they own and/or lease the trailers

I am well aware they are not company owned vehicles.I used to be there myself for awile in the past. That is why I said Over 10,000 trucks in their system, meaning all of their companies/divisions combined.Last I knew, anyway.Trailers are rented to the BCO's (Business capacity owners), another name for owner-operator,for a small fee.I have alot of freinds there that are extremely successful.

I don't know about 10,000 trucks, the number I got this morning was 7594 which seems right to me.

Trailers are either rented or they are owned by the BCOs. If you own your own trailer, the revenue split goes up a lot.

Prime does have the assets to buy landstar as they are the largest reefer company out there.Hell the even own a couple of Casinos on the gulf and shares in many others.Between reefer, flatbed and tanker, they run over 10,000 trucks and like landstar they lease their trailers.
and as for Kmart buying Sears it was the other way around as a stockholder of Sears I should know!

You are right, Sear was bought by Kmart which in turn was funded by an investment fund of sorts.

BUT back to Landstar, if this was really happening, no one outside of the executive staff would know it until it is announced. AN agent or for that matter office staff would not know what is going on with a merger or a take over.

From someone at Prime - "you ****ing kidding?"

That is just the point, things like mergers, and buy-outs are always kept hush hush from the people that matter ie, employees, drivers, etc. If this is even taking place, a broker wouldn't know about it, and was probably just smarting off.

and Cambell Soup bought GM & Ford [pkg deal]

What a rediccolous thread to start.

It was asked, not stated. So how is it a rediccolous post as you say. I never thought Yellow would buy Roadway because Roadway was worth more and bigger, but it did happen. So don't bash someone for asking something.

I don't remember the gentleman's name but Prime is owned by someone from around Kansas City. He owns Casinos up that way. When Rockaway Beach got a item? on the ballot a couple of years ago to put a casino in Rockaway Beach the owner of Prime was the backer for the State wide advertising. It didn't pass. Prime has dry van, flat bed & reefer divisions. You can get about any make tractor to lease through them.
