Hey guys... what about those dead pirates??? As a former Navy guy, I really admire what our military personnel has been able to accomplish today.

Our Navy Seals did a FINE job today, a VERY FINE job. Now, what we need to do, is park a WW2 type battlewagon just off shore and wipe out those pirate villages. Just make them go away. POOF!!! No more. Gone. NADA. Smoke. :D You can bet your boots that the more than $100 million that these thugs have extorted over the last serveral years is NOT going for humanitarian relief. It might be a good idea to arm the merchant vessels too. Layoutshooter

This is nothing new for Africa. The line "The shores of Tripoli" in the Marines Hymn is in reference to the First Barbary wars fought to protect merchant shipping off the shores of North Africa. You just can't make a leapord change it's stripes!! Layoutshooter

An Al Gore quote. I love it. Seriously, I am very impressed with the training that these Navy Seals must have had to shoot those pirates without killing Captain Phillips.

The CEO of Maersk Shipping Lines made it pretty clear in a news interview he did not want military action. It seems he preferred to negotiate a ransom payment. These shipping companies and their insurers' willingness to pay ransoms is what perpetuates hijacking of ocean freighters. Now, after the fact, with Capt. Phillips safely rescued, this same CEO is singing the praises of our military. I don't get these guys.

Al Gore? What did I miss? I don't think I was quoting anyone. Layoutshooter
I thought you meant it as a joke. Al Gore once said in speech ( I forget when) that a leopard doesn't change his stripes. He got ripped for it for a long time.

I was not aware that ALGORE had said that one. I just said it to poke fun at myself there for making it easy for others to poke fun at me. Every one knows that a leapord cannot change it's stripes just as a zebra cannot change it's spots!! Yes, OVM, I would be buying the steaks and beer for them if I could. Layoutshooter

Finally the Navy took it upon themselves and their commanders in the field and made the decision on their own to take this action.. Hats off and salute to the Navy Seals. And they even used "snipers" at 20-30 meters in rolling seas. used .308 caliber weapons and had 3 clean head shots....(they must not know what they were doing, the "experts" here laughed at that saying it was a idea) :

** wow seems that is exactly what they did!!, Well 3 shots instead of 4 because there were only 3 on the lifeboat at the time..:D

and "O" was still eating gourmat pizza as the Navy comand said he gave no orders to take this action, he was still in the "talking" mood..........

congrats to our Navy, now its time to shell the coast, harbors and 50-75% of the somalian land............

Does anyine have any count on the # of the other 200 hostages that the pirates have killed at this point to show the world how mad they are at the U.S???

According to the admiral (Vice Adm. Bill Gortney) who handled the Pentagon briefing, there were "standing orders" to take action IF Captain Phillips' life was in immenent danger. It was the on-scene commander (Frank Castellano) who made that decision and ordered the Navy SEALS to shoot.

Admiral Gortney was specifically asked if he (the on-scene commander) had been in telephone communication with the president and the answer was no, there was a "standing order" and it was the Navy on-scene commander (Frank Castellano) who made the decision that Captain Phillips' life was, indeed, in immenent danger.

It is a great thing when our military FIELD commands do what they are trained to do and the politicians either stay out of the way or are ignored.........Why to go Navy..........

All it took was some VERY well trained shooters, on-scene commanders with common sense and "stones". NOW, let us hope that they finish the job and pulverlize that coast line. Just flatten thier bases of operations and make thier boats un-usable. If we happen to take them out at the same time so much the better. They are kinda like cancer, there are only a few ways that work to get rid of it. Radiation, too extreme in this case. Chemo, I don't approve of chemical weapons. (other that highly concentrated poison ivy oil) The only other method is surgery, let's "cut the cancer" out. Remove the threat. Layoutshooter

The fact that after 5 days the Navy "on scene commander" made the call on his own without barrys involvement shows just how totally worthless, gutless and without experience obama is....he has once again shown the rest of the terrorist world that he is weak, and has no stomach or even desire for confrontation.....the only thing we as a nation can take away from this is that we do still have some Military commanders that will draw a line in the sand and do what they are trained to do, kill and destroy...thank God for Career Military men that still understand the need to perform their jobs and make the tough call.....

Yes Layout, they now need to finish the job and destroy the ports and cities that these pirate run to. Even the people that these pirates live within want them out, but since the government (yes they have a new half azz'ed government in place) is also corrupt and weak on the pirates, they don't have much hope of that happening. LOL, the Prime Minister of somilia welcomed this end and the way it ended, he said that this should send a message ti the priates and he hopes it does. That being said, our on scene navy commander said he thinks this could very well open the area to more violence....One can only hope the this same Commander is in charge........

Few in the world would complain if we took these thugs out and we really don't give a diddily doodilly about any country that would. Obama has a real chance here to do a much needed job. Any bets? I hope I am wrong and I wake to find that he "did the right thing". I would love to eat a HUGE plate of "Crow stew". I doubt that I will have too. Layoutshooter

Re: Pirates! HOW TO HANDLE IT?

I'm sure glad no on told the snipers they couldn't do it.....

Confidence comes from years of training and practice, unlike so-called "self-esteem" when you just "feel good about yourself". To gain confidence you have to both suceed AND FAIL at HARD things. The more hard things you do the better you will become and the more confident you are in your own ABILITIES. Strange how that works, eh? Kinda that opposite of what we teach in school these days. Should we obliderate the coast of Somalia before trying to free the other 200 hostages being held by the pirates?

It is my understanding that the President had to authorize the "shoot to kill" orders, before the personnel, on the scene, could do so. Is that not how the chain of command works?

LOL, for 5 days we heard nothing that barry was doing about this...then after the "on scene commander takes action and ends this and tells everyone that he had NOT heard from the whitehouse to take this action, Now , this evening, the MSM is saying the Whitehouse is in the process ofreleaseing a message that barry gave permission not once but twice, to shot to kill.........LOL, so gving his permission on friday wasn't enough, he had to do it again on saturday?? B/S...I'll take the word of the "on scene commander" over this weakazz no gut socilaist in the whitehouse..

The MSM sayes this is "breaking and the whitehouse will release updates as needed..........lol........what they need more time to get their story right......lol

As for barry having to give the order, I am thinking no.....the chain of command does not flow from the president on every move the military makes. barry had his "talker" trying to make a deal, the on scene commander has the power to make the decision if the hostages life is in eminient danger, he then has the power to use the necessary force to take the hostage out of danger....

As for blowing somilia back to dirt while the 200 othrs are there, "collertal damage"........its all part of the deal........

Update:

LOL, now the story is the DoD had to ASK barry for his permission as he wouldn't give it, they sked on fri night and nothing, they asked again sat and he signed off.......so if thats how it went down, he still is gutless, he wouldn't make the right decision on his own, he needed to be prodded by the Military people in the DoD before he would sign off on it.....personally I'll still take the statement that came from the "on scene commande" that he got nothing from the president.....
