    Hours of Service Concerns

On the other hand, we took a run to WA only because it picked up early in the week and didn't deliver until Monday. We told FedEx CC we weren't ready for our first run under the new rules to be a long straight thru. Our runs after that, about 90% were over 800 and 25% over 1000. Based on this...

    Your Opinion Please!

We team drive with FedEx Custom Critical and stay happy as pigs in a waller. They keep us busy with interesting freight and we have never had a conversation with anyone in payroll. I'm glad you didn't ask for complaints as we don't have any. Vernon in C2197

    BioDiesel

About the tax question, biodeisel is a fuel additive that just happens to burn like diesel, plus it is a great cleaner and lubricant for your fuel system. Biodeisel production at home is best carried out by someone with a dedicated run that brings then home every day (Go Raceman!). You can...

Epedited Experience vs Life Experience vs Trucking

RE: Epedited Experience vs Life Experience vs Truc Tennesee Trash, I enjoy reading your posts, and I appreciate the viewpoint you have as someone with 0 experience. You seem to be loaded with common sense though, and that is a pretty important quality to help sort thru the different answers we...

    C unit

We have an 18 ft box on a GMC C6500 long wheelbase chassis with a sleeper. The extra 4 ft gives us room to carry some extras and some extra space to negotiate for some D loads we would otherwise miss. Vernon in C2197 Will get a picture up here one of these days.

    Computer Programs that actually work

We use a combination approach. We have an old old Garmin Streetpilot that has a pretty good basemap of the US and Canada. Just turn it on and go. We follow the QualComm dirs where practical, and we even get to the customers sometimes with it. If their dirs don't work, we let dispatch know...

    Average miles per hour?

We average around 3500 miles per week at an average speed of 54 mph. We normally run with 63 mph as our top speed, to hold down the fuel costs. We travel with 3 dogs so with pit stops every 2-3 hours, 54 avg is good. Vernon in C2197

    Sprint WI FI

Not with Sprint, but had similiar luck with a home DSL THAT WORKED AT ABOUT 4.8K. Quite a speeddown from my 56k modem. My solution was to spend some late night hours online/phone with tech support. After getting the 4th different rep, finally found someone who could troubleshoot and fix it...

    TEAMS IN VANS?

Concerning the class C CDL in a class C expeditor, my wife has a C CDL and has been driving a C unit with GVW 25950 for over 7 years now. We have hydraulic brakes. We had the same concerns (Re vans or C unit) and opted for the C unit with a full size sleeper. We find most WalMart parking lots...

    Paycheck issue

Miko, I don't know where the smoking comes in, but the banking answer is easy. Go to Flying J and get an application for their TAB account, which will get you a debit card for the road and a checkbook for home, all on the same account. $25 opens the account and have not seen any delay on using...

    Good Question ?

    >RE a small question (and a great one). I don't know if you have recent experience driving commercial as most expeditor outfits require you to have 6 months experience driving that size unit to operate solo. Frankly, that's a pretty good idea anyway. It sounds like your best approach, after...

Average Miles Per Week for Teams

We also had a 6600 mile week once, and decided not to do that again. We were too tired when the week was done. No, we are not moderators. Vernon in C2197

    Empty Miles

Sarkus, the words of DAVEKC gives you a strong clue on what to do with your present company: >Know what it costs to run your truck. "Businessman first, driver second" Here is how I translate that. I don't play with the empty and loaded concepts, as my truck costs me about the same to run it...

    Right or wrong

You did not say what company you leased with and the places where you have been sitting, so I will speak from the point of being with FedEx CC. We have locations that you will be lucky to find one run a week and others where they have run out of trucks by 10 AM. You have to find out whether the...

Percentage of miles driven at night.

Welcome, Recruiter! We too run about 75% nights, and really like it that way because we can usually make better time with less hassles. With many daytime runs, we frequently get caught in work traffic or game traffic, so nighttime runs are welcomed. Vernon in C2197

How well do you sleep going down the road.

The main issue appears to be the question, how can you be sufficently rested to safely take the next run. We decide among ourselves whether we feel like running as soon as we drop off the load. If either of us are tired and don't feel safe running, we place ourselves out of service for 5 hours...

Fuel cards, and tips or tricks of the trade.

Flying J has a pretty good deal here. Get their PDCA mastercard when you open an account. The account accepts direct deposit, pays interest, has free mailers if you don't want direct deposit, the Mastercard works everywhere plus at Flying J gives you cash price, use their ATMs to get cash or...

    too high?

I really have to agree with RichM on this one. I'm running a 3126 Cat with 383k on it now, and sweat bullets every time I shut it down. Big question with the FL80 is always what kind of 6 speed (overdrive or regular) and what rear end ratio (most seem to be 4.63, which means that 3126 may be...

New Hurricane headed for the US

Yes, I'm concerned about the hurricanes too, but I think we have been riding the worst one for the paast few years. Look at how the cost of fuel has risen, and it is directly a cause of this hurricane. I sure hope it ends soon so we can start cleanup. Vernon in C2197 Let's replant a bush in...
