    Two Questions (Could be controversial)

Maybe look at it another way. If a restaurant buys food from a supplier, should he not then pay for those supplies if customers fail to appear? I think you know the answer. Expediting is competitive, but it is no different than that same restaurant making a killing and then a competitor opens...

    Would you take this run??

We have been up there as well. Just alittle extra prep and supplies before running it and that is about it.

How do I know if i should do the load

I don't try to complicate the simple. I know our cost per mile and look where it is going. With the exception of a few places, I can find a load just about anywhere. I just look how close to a major metro area it is and that is it. Like Steve, I don't use spreadsheets or anything like that.

Your Thoughts About Going to California?

Sometimes a drum can be beat but no one hears. The reality is Phil does what works for Phil, and makes sure everyone knows it. Is it the best way? Not hardly in my opinion, but I am assuming it is the best for him. I can look at that as many others can, because myself and others have already...

Your Thoughts About Going to California?

That could be problematic. If you were to call can you get that information? With Panther, the way they currently do it is it shows whats there, whats due in, and whether there are teams or not. I do think our last 5 day daily average is sometimes flawed, because it counts all loads, including...

Your Thoughts About Going to California?

Might be of value to know how long the trucks there have been sitting. I would look at that more than the high truck amounts. As Steve mentioned, those numbers can change quickly. If in our case I see trucks sitting for a extended periods of time, I am looking for a load long before we ever...

    location

We had a truck out there a little over a week ago and we were amazed that many had been out there for several weeks waiting on a load.

    When it rain it pours

I agree. I would never say it guarantees anyone's success. But it would take care of the largest percentage of failures. Just a matter odds. With regards to your situation that I know nothing about, it does give me pause to mention truck insurance. One might consider a rider policy for events...

Am I the only one who thinks this is bull crap

In the short answer, no. The only time something like that should effect the driver is if they are doing something to have a negative effect on the revenue. You can't penalize the driver because the carrier isn't producing freight. If a drivers availability is weak, then that might be a...

    Everybody getting paid?

I will address a couple of things since this is your first post. I have been around for a long time and what I put here is pretty much what you get in person. I will let others decide that of the ones that know me. The issues of legal liability have already been addressed in several other...

    When it rain it pours

I really don't think your alone. Too many jump in under capitalized. Happens frequently in other businesses as well. Your situation is a testimonial as to why I advocate having at least 10k or better in reserves before one even thinks of buying a truck and jumping in. That is AFTER you have...

Your Thoughts About Going to California?

That could change my mind. 22 trucks and then being 23:eek: Ok.....that addresses that idea of whether it is beneficial to broker loads or not. But yes, we still go out there, but not go and then sit that long. That would take the profit out of it. We as others turn out of there pretty quickly.

Am I the only one who thinks this is bull crap

I don't know all of the particulars in the original post, but hypothetically speaking, should a owner take a beating because a driver takes excessive time off? And for how long prior to just terminating the contract? Kinda of a gray area. In that instance, the driver is causing the financial...

    It could be worse

I use to like those old GMC/Chevy trucks. I thought they were so innovating for the time with the huge glass windshield and the wrap-around dash board. Lost my interest on the huge windshield when we found out the heaters were worthless in them. Never bought one but later we went to KW100...

    Everybody getting paid?

I don't see those costs getting anywhere close to 5k? But it does the beg the question as to why someone would have the need to attend a truck driving school to obtain a class B license? It can all be done on your own for about 300 to 400 tops. And that includes using a rental truck for the test.
