    Custom Rigs: Worth the Expense?

Of course, "BOAT" stands for Break Out Another Thousand, which we did with disturbing regularity There is something I can identify with. Went from a row boat to a 40 foot Sea Ray. Couldn't resist on the "went".:D

    Custom Rigs: Worth the Expense?

That comparison on the 3k corn binder would be a interesting read. I think the motivations change based on several things. I done it with the basics of a ford 350 all the way to a full blown camping machine. Amazing how that changes when you bring the wife in the truck.:p From a fleet owner...

Atlanta GA IS A Drag but got a few things done

88 cents per mile in a dry van straight wouldn't even be appealing unless there are several loads all going to roughly the same place. Those are cheap rates for a tractor pulling a reefer. Your friends are probably telling you accurate information. Atlanta has been fairly busy including this...

    New Panther Lease-Purchase Program

Seems like a lot to speculate on when no one has seen this contract. I am not a fan of them in any shape or form. It was indicated the trucks were coming from Indy, but that is all I know. As mentioned, It would be advisable to look at this verses a Penske or similar setup. If that price is...

Is it legal to shave a drivers miles?

I would agree with Charles as well on the mileage. I am also mindful that numerous carriers shave a bunch off the FSC paid to drivers as well. Many of them claim they pay 100 percent of it when it isn't even close to being truthful.

Should have told that group 100 percent of nothing. Then you would have had them lined out the door.

    fuel surchg.

Have to watch but haven't run into that yet except of DOD loads. But the base rate is higher on those.

    fuel surchg.

Are you on a flat rate program? Just looking at straights since that is all we run, I haven't noticed anything different including loads that came in today. One was 35 and the other was 36 cents. We did see a couple of cheap ones from Chrysler last week, but we passed on those loads.

    Good versus bad

Too many trying to complicate the simple when it isn't necessary. Boils down to two things. Fleet owner reputation and proven verifiable results. Yes, that means talking to current and past drivers for information and what they experienced. A contract is necessary, but other factors weigh...

    Factoring for Cash Flow

If you can operate on your own funds, I would higly recommend it. If not, do you homework when shopping. Some are ok and some are total ripoff operations. Can't recommend a specific one now as we haven't used one in over ten years.

Owners who withhold your money when notice is given

That is not a factual statement from that owner. A contract signed by both parties IS a binding contract. One can call it a "binding agreement" but they are essentially the same thing. Only a few variables will change from state to state. Speaking for my own contracts, it is spelled out very...

Owners who withhold your money when notice is given

Many fleet owners operate with a contract. I would highly advise not signing on with one that doesn't have it. As far as a drivers contract, it isn't going to happen because they don't carry the investment. Like anything else, it can be negotiated. Either party reserves the right to say no.

    Jounalism at its best

Hard to argue with the Fox viewership numbers. I still like them as far as my primary news source. Although I do peek in from time to time to catch Brian Williams on NBC. Have to stay balanced. Can't take much of Katie Couric so that is a no go.That leaves Diane Sawyer on the networks. Yawn. If...

Owners who withhold your money when notice is given

As a fleet owner I sympathise with you. These types of folks give the good ones a bad name. I would say take them to small claims court if you have a case. Read your contract carefully to ensure there were no breeches on your behalf. As long as we have been doing this, we have never had the...

    Headed in a new direction

Well Charles, I know exactly how you feel. Good luck on the stay at home adventure. You will get the itch to get out from time to time. Wife and I have went out several times, but now too many trucks to many things to do to hit the road for a extended period. That is when you find yourself...
