    Fuel Surcharge & Carrier Obligation

Thank you everyone for your input. This is as I expected. Confirmed that driver does NOT have a contrat; none of the drivers for this company have them.

    Fuel Surcharge & Carrier Obligation

Allow me to make one more point. The operations person who this driver talked to told him that if the company tried to give the owner/operators the full 100% of the fuel surcharge, then they would no longer be contractors, and would have to be considered employees. That statement makes no sense...

    Fuel Surcharge & Carrier Obligation

I'm aware of a contract situation. This is a courier company that I doubt has their drivers sign contracts. There is no transparency with them whatsoever. The driver who asked me about it was not aware until recently that the company was keeping any amount of the surcharge. I was just hoping to...

    Fuel Surcharge & Carrier Obligation

Does a carrier have a legal obligation to share any amount of fuel surcharges with owner/operators? This is in regards to a courier company that is paying a 60/40 split, even though they obviously incur no extra expense when drivers are the ones paying for the fuel. I don't believe they are...

Do I have to keep a log book

Others here can give a much more diffinitive answer, but I believe if you weigh over 10,000# and are more than 100 miles from your home terminal, you are required to log.

Crossroads Couriers is a pretty big outfit in the St Louis area. I think they may be more suited to what you're looking for.

    Why do Christian drivers...

Maybe the bumper stickers were put on by the owner of the trailer, and have nothing to do with the driver. 45 years of church, and no pastor/preacher has ever tried to teach drivers' education. Maybe driving and being a Christian are two completely seperate ways of life to some people, and...

    Short or Extended Sprinter?

Seeker, I only lasted 3 months in this business, so I can only give a very small sample size. But in three months, I only had one load in my Sprinter that wouldn't have fit in 2 pallets' worth of space.

    newbies,would you do it again

I left a full-time gig, bought a used Sprinter, and jumped into expediting. Lasted 3 months before the used van I THOUGHT was in good shape showed it's real colors. If I had known what I was buying, and that it would put me in debt to this day, then no, I would not have left my full-time job...

    Satellite communications

Qualcomm Satellite...$20 Satellite messaging...$35 That's every week. Maybe I'm wrong to call them both "QC charges", but that's where I was getting the $55 figure.

    Is a van a CMV

Catch-22. Some places will tell you you're a commercial vehicle because you have signage on your van, so obviously it isn't your "personal" vehicle. Then someone at the next scale will tell you to "get your puny little van off my scale". I always felt I could get in more trouble for not...

    Feedback: LDB's Experimental thread

Seems to me I have an option. If I want to know where people are, I can look in the thread showing only location. If I want to know where people are and what they're doing and what's on their mind, I can look in the original thread. Everyone has a choice as to which threads throughout EO they...
