I have searched past posts on this website but did not find much information about when you have to keep a log book. I am looking at buying a truck with a GVW of 25,500 and a single axle. Would have to keep a log book even though I woud not need a CDL. Thanks

Others here can give a much more diffinitive answer, but I believe if you weigh over 10,000# and are more than 100 miles from your home terminal, you are required to log.

Look in your States DMV CDL booklet. It will have everything you need to know. I believe it's anything over ten thousand & one lbs.

The dividing line is 10k pounds but even vehicles under 10k gvw have to log if they are carrying hazmat and over 10k gvw logs all loads not just hazmat. As noted, get the study guide from your state and it should give you all the specifics.

ldb is correct just to add though anything over 10,000 lbs combined weight. so if you are a hotshot---pickup truck towing a trailer you must addtrailer capacity to truck capacity
