I heard of it but I also heard that there may be a change to the ADA, which allows disable people who can't do much to drive a truck.

I didn't here of it till I took a physical for a new company and the dis -qualifier was a body mass index of 39 and allegedly I am at 30 being 6'1" and 225#..
Still don't know what that has to do with the thinning of the herd but Doc Sez I am 2 Golden Corrals and a twelve pack away from a new career choice.
Funny isn't it..
Seems like all truck driver types should wear horn rim glasses cause every time anyone has a crisis we get beat on..

I am working on 80%, much softer to sit on. I wonder if we should measure the "brain fat" on all those who write regs. Sure seems to be a lot of "fat heads" out there!!

The OOIDA Landline Magazine ran a series of 4 articles about this and other subjects relative to driver medical qaulifications and pending changes. I found the information helpful and interesting. I too, however, am frustrated with the ever increasing amount of over regulations. :(

But I was and still am under the impression that cargo vans do not fall under these rules and regulations, because of the under 10,000 # gvw rule.Or is it just the big carriers that are requiring ALL drivers leased to them no matter what they drive to qualify as a cdl holder?

Am I see Lap Band Surgeries in a lot of driver's futures? I mean come on. How can they expect us to stay thin when the majority of our job is spent sitting down? It would be different if there were gyms to work out in at the major truck stops. Then again I rarely have time for that either.

If you read the links that are posted here you would see that as of right now it isnt a rule. It is a recomendation and the number is 30% if you are over 30% they want you to take a sleep study at the cost of about $2000.00 to see if you need a seap machine or is it cepac something like that. anyway it isnt a disqualifer but it will require a yearly dot physical its all bull c#@p its just a dr's way to get into our pockets you will see in the articles that all of the newly proposed rules are made by dr's that work in those fields talk about building a customer base huh.

cap and trade

I think it would be a good idea for them to come up with a cap to how high a driver's body fat index is. Then they allow drivers that are below the cap to sell credits for the amount they are under to drivers who are over.

Re: cap and trade

Although I am not the hunk of burnin' love that I once was,I just cant imagine anyone weighing over 300#, as I was 7 weeks ago.It is tough to lose weight, and for most of my life, I was in shape and stayed in shape. But the last 8 years have been hard on me in many different ways, so I ended up letting myself go physically.I got off the road 7 weeks ago and told myself that I would not practically live in the truck like I have in the past.So far, in the last 7 weeks, I have lost 21 lbs just by eating smaller portions, and more excercise that I did not get from being in the truck for a year at a time. I am not using that as an excuse, but I feel that when a person starts to get overweight, the energy and motivation levels go down alot, and a person will just do nothing physically because at that point it is too strenuous. That is what I went through.I cant tell you how much better I feel just from losing the 21#.but I have alot more to go.I just ask that everyone not judge other overweight people as I once did, when I was in shape. Now I know what it is like to be that way.So as hard as it is for me, I try not to judge others heavier than me.And for those of you out there that want to lose weight, Don't put it off any longer. It will only get tougher. And dont expect huge results right away.It takes time, as we are not all the same.Be patient with yourself. It is worth the effort. And dont be ashamed to ask a freind for support. But most importantly of all, pray about it and believe in yourself.I know you can do it.
