Toll Roads and IFTA

We were chit chatting the other day, and you know....
perhaps it's not so bad if ALL the interstates become
Toll roads... isn't the fuel tax used for maintaining
our beautiful roads? and if they become Tolls, then the
tolls (blech) maintain the roads, and then the fuel
tax disappears, right?

That would be correct in a perfect world, but we do not live in a perfect world, I feel quite sure they would find other uses for our money.

Nice assumption. I think you have a better chance of winning the lottery, than to live to see a tax repealed. Washington (or any state capital) never met a tax they didn't like.

Somewhere in the congress is a bill (maybe two) that says if an interstate is or becomes a toll road, then all federal funds are cut off. The author of the bill said it is unfair that people already pay for the road through the taxes and then have to pay to drive on it.

But with the truckers the way they are, they will live with the toll increases and the new toll roads.

I believe he was making a joke..but serious truck drivers
wouldn't recognize a joke if it jumped up and bit you. :7

RE: IFTA million dollars

You know IF all the Goverments used the money that they recieved from us in the shape of fuel taxes, and tolls, AND applied it directly to the maintenance of our dreadful roads, we would have the best roads anywhere. We have paid through the tolls AND through the fuel taxes, and just about any other tax you want to dredge up for the roads in our country more than once. So we should just take the idea that the Interstates are going to become toll roads, and roll over, and go back to sleep? Not me.

Nope... that's when ALL the truckers start driving thru little towns, clogging up THEIR traffic. Then, when they get tired of us, they'll call their reps to get something done about it.

kentucky removed the toll from whatever that road is that runs from south of Evansville to Bowling Green. I almost drove off the road when I read the sign that the tolls were lifted.

Tolls in most cases DO NOT go into fixing the roads if they did the bridges in Ny would be paved in gold. Most states use the toll money to pay for their social programs. I say screw them if the people in those states want those programs let them pay for them. If i cant get the company to cover the cost of the tolls i just dont take those loads. It isn't my job to pay for what other people want.

if the ifta tax on fuel was put where it belonged, there wouldnt be a need for any toll roads, but the tax money isnt being spent on the roads.how about the $550 fed tax each truck pays each year for the federal roads, where is it going, and must we for get about the fed exice tax on trucks, that $12000 you pay everytime you buy a new truck, where is that money going,or the excise tax when you purchase your tires, where is that money going.
let me tell you a short story about fuel tax, when we came off the 55 mph, ands the gov. gave each state to make there own speed laws, west va went to 70 mph.they were 1st,and then you know what happened, every state raised their speed ,and at the same time also put and extra .05 cents per gallon tax on there fuels, faster speeds buy more fuel, put more money in the governors pockets. enough said, thats my 2 cents
