The Trump Card...

The "debate" was so out of control, moderator had no control. Once the candidates realized they could butt in at anytime, it became a fee for all. I do agree with Trump that 3 hrs was a little long :dash2:

Yeah, calling it a "debate" is a good way to write it. It was more like a group interview.

Too long. Too many on stage at one time, and they could have used a buzzer or bell to end the talking instead of a moderator's voice.

Yeah, it's the real plane. It's the one Nixon used to fly to California when he resigned. Of all the presidents who flew in it, Reagan logged the most miles. It's the same plane Carter flew to Germany to greet US hostages following their release from Iran, you know, after Reagan was elected. Its last official flight was in 2001, when President George W. Bush flew it to Waco, Texas. After that it flew to an airfield in San Bernardino, where it was disassembled and trucked to Simi Valley. It was then reassembled at the Reagan Library. Today, it’s the centerpiece of the library’s big Air Force One pavilion, which also includes a presidential motorcade and the actual interior of a pub Reagan once visited in Ireland. Because when you hear "Air Force One," you immediately think Irish pub.

On one flight during his presidency, Reagan was flying this particular Air Force One (SAM 27000) with then-Secretary of the Air Force James McGovern. In the midst of a conversation, Reagan said, “Mr. Secretary, this is a pretty nice airplane…. Can I have it?” Reagan went on to explain that he wanted it for his library, according to abook on the plane’s “final mission” by father and son co-authors Joel and Michael Cohen. McGovern agreed to give it to him.

It was the first former presidential aircraft to go to a presidential library. When it happened, every other presidential library crapped a collective brick and cried like a little girl. Jerry terHorst, a former Ford press secretary asked in 2001, “Why does he have a favored claim to it over Nixon, Ford, or Carter?”

Well Jerry, because he called dibs.

The LBJ Library in Austin, Texas, would like the SAM 26000 sister ship. they want it bad. That Boeing 707 was the first to be specially configured to serve as Air Force One. It entered service in 1962, and is most famous as the aircraft President Kennedy flew to Dallas’ Love Field on Nov. 22, 1963. After JFK’s assassination, 26000 was the plane in which LBJ was sworn in as president. It carried Kennedy’s body back to Washington. That plane is currently at the National Museum of the US Air Force in Dayton, Ohio.

In a 2014 letter, Air Force Maj. Gen. James Martin said, “The Air Force is not considering the transfer of this aircraft to the Lyndon B. Johnson Presidential Library and Museum or any other entity. We called dibs. So quit asking.”

Are the father and son co-authors any relation to brothers Joel and Ethan?

The Henry Ford Museum claimed dibs on Kennedy's Lincoln, but only after Servpro did their thing.

Speaking of Servpro needing to clean a Presidential limousine , Clinton's 1993 Cadillac is at his museum in Little Rock. Its interior is unviewable, the Museum has no means of moving the car (the Secret Service has the only access to it) and this limo will be the last to be publicly displayed. All subsequent Presidential State Cars will be destroyed after decommissioning; this being a consequence of the focus on antiterrorism.

Most politicians are clueless. They say what you want to hear for votes knowing they are pandering to a uninformed electorate. Same think with Sanders out there promising free healthcare, free college education, expanded social security and the list goes on. Few are telling anyone that we are tapped out. In otherwords, we have maxed out the credit card. That is why they are wanting to raise the debt ceiling again. Also has a lot to do with why they didn't raise interest rates.
Just last week, Lew sent a letter to Congress saying we need to take extreme measures to avoid default. Soo....what do they want to do. Yep, you guessed it. Pull money from federal retirement funds.
The facts are there are three types of government spending. Discretionary, which is what does to each department, the mandatory, like SS, medicare, that are set by law, and then the interest on the actual borrowed money. If you add just the mandatory debt and interest, that covers all your tax revenue. Not good. If you got rid of all of the departments, you would still likely be running a deficit.
The government says the long term shortfall is at roughly 42 trillion on mandatory spending. We are 18 trillion (almost 19) in debt with 60 trillion in future liabilities. You don't have enough rich people to pay the bill. You can take every penny they have, and you are still way short.
This is why guys like Sanders are absolutely clueless about our real debt. At some point, there will be a default. If we default on China that will destabilize world markets. Nope, we will default the Federal Reserve which is carrying massive debt. That in turn will affect money for welfare, social security and basically any entitlement programs.

As are most voters ...

Yup ... and if anyone would ever like some real insight into just how uninformed the electorate actually is, tune into C-SPAN when they are taking calls and listen to what's being said or asked. Preferably on an issue about which you reasonably well-informed.

For a reasonable person, wisdom might dictate that one probably ought not have a strong opinion about things which one is not well-informed on, and/or that at a minimum, one ought to become better informed before doing so.

But of course, doing that would require at least being able to recognize that one is not well-informed, and a degree of humility ... something that may be in short supply for some, if not all, to one degree or another.

What the candidates won't tell us is the actual extent of giveaways to the already wealthy [people and corporations], because they depend upon them for the obscene amounts of money they need to run a campaign, and because they happen to be among the wealthy themselves.
Bernie Sanders is not wealthy, and he sees money for education and infrastructure as investment in our future - one that is more promising than tax breaks for the 'job creators'. [Who are not, as the politicians claim, the corporations. Jobs are created solely in response to increased demand for product or service, not because a company has more money to spend.] The Republicans just keep insisting that tax breaks for businesses create jobs, in spite of all the evidence proving them wrong. Now they're doing exactly the same thing in response to the videos of Planned Parenthood: insisting on defunding them because they break the law, even after at least 6 states and Congress found no evidence, and claiming existing clinics can satisfy the need. Funny, when a judge in La asked the state to provide evidence of existing clinics to replace PP, the list was loaded with dentists, audiologists, plastic surgeons, ear, nose & throat specialists, etc. All of whom had "billed using family planning codes", according to the state's attorneys. I think they're investigating the wrong clinics, lol.
I'd like to be nonpartisan, but it's hard to see the Republicans as caring about the future, and about all the citizens they're very well paid to represent. And it's really hard to believe Trump could be taken seriously as a candidate, while Bernie Sanders gets ignored. How many Republicans have appeared in 'enemy territory' to talk about their ideas? Any of them?

Enemy territory? Liberty University invited Sanders to speak at their school and he accepted. By all accounts, Bernie Sanders was treated with courtesy and respect. Contrast that reception of Sanders to the debacle in Seattle one month ago when protesters from Black Lives Matter rushed the stage and grabbed the microphone away from Bernie, basically shutting down his own event in a liberal city. Guess they learned that trick from the ill-mannered Kanye West who made an ass of himself by rushing the stage at an MTV awards event and grabbed the mic away from Taylor Swift. Random acts of thuggery.
