Ran out of gas/fuel??? Part of this business is "route" planning and knowing where to get gas/fuel before you need it.....

Having a Diesel powered unit can be fun sometimes, there are places I go in Canada that the closest Diesel available after 20:00 can be 100 miles away. I never push it, always fuel up before going into the unknown even if it is like 5.10 a gallon

We top off when we hit half a tank. Kinda prevents this kind of thing.

No gas stations open? That's a terrible situation to be in.

If that is a GM van your driving, you will want to avoid running the fuel tank low like that, even you don't run out. The fuel pump is located inside the tank and the fuel acts as coolant for the pump. Running it low, often, will greatly decrease the life of the fuel pump. Those fuel pumps are not cheap either...a few hundred dollars. I don't know exactly, I think there are some threads on here about it though.

If your van is a Ford? I have no idea..lol.

EDIT: Here is a good discussion about fuel pumps: http://www.expeditersonline.com/forum/truck-talk/48141-van-fuel-pumps-2.html

Glad to hear u got help out in the middle of no where in the middle of the night,,,But I have to tel you that running you fuel tank empty like that is no good for the fuel pump, simply because you will cause it to have a short life.....anyways be safe fuel up before you get to a 1/4 tank......

I can't wait to hear the reason for running that low before fueling so as to run completely out of fuel twice the same day. Most fuel gauges have 9 markings, E, F, and 7 marks in between. Fuel should be purchased to refill the tank when the gauge is no closer to empty than the third mark up from the E absent significant extenuating circumstances. As mentioned, it is very detrimental to the fuel pump to run the fuel low in the tank as well as sucking impurities into the line when run too low. Now to await the story of two empties in one day.

I'm anxious to hear that story as well, LDB. In my entire life, I've run out of gas once. My wife failed to tell me that she left the car on fumes. I got in it to go to work and my choices were to get gas and be late, or take a chance that I'd get to work and make it to the gas station after work. I chose going to work and ran out. Her excuse was that she had no cash with her. I reminded her that she had a credit card, but she didn't want to use it for that. Hmmm... Isn't that exactly the kind of thing a credit card is for?

Wow, last night the All Seventies All Porn network was showing "Dutch Treat", starring American actor Johnny Holmes. Johnny plays Peter van Meter, a lovable, simple minded, bumbling traveling salesman who is constantly tripping over himself because he is blessed with 39.37 inches. Peter's employer, the Van Heusen shirt company, supplies Peter with a company van that he lives in and travels around his sales territory which includes the Red Light District of Amsterdam.

As luck would have it, Peter runs out of petro one night near De Wallen. Two young ladies who just finished their shift as waitresses at the Holland Lop Club (think the Netherlands' version of the Playboy Club with similar costumes only with down ears) stop to help out poor Peter. Things heat up when the girls get Peter back to his van.

One hilarious scene finds Peter on stage in a gay bar, dressed like Liberace, seated at a piano with a candelabra, flanked by the two Lop Bunnies and singing "Tulips On My Organ".

At times the plot was difficult to follow because of the subtitles and metric references but this movie is considered a 1970's porn classic. If you are into 70's foreign porn check out "Van Goghn". This movie was released in the United States under the title "Van Gone". It chronicles the sexual adventures of a Dutch painter who travels the country in his van until it gets stolen, forcing the painter to seek shelter in a convent.

Yes, the Coriolis Effect dictates that this movie shows in a regular counter-clockwise rotation in the northern hemisphere and a regular clockwise rotation in the southern hemisphere.

The Coriolis effect also makes it appear that it's coming straight at you [like snow through the windshield] - the perfect effect for this movie. Or the worst - you decide.:D
