Obama lied?

Did Obama lie when he said we could keep what ever insurance we had if we liked it? Seems so. My wife has a high deductable, low premium plan tied to a health saving account. It does every thing we need. It is affordable. It gives us much more control over our health care dollars. Here is a notice we received about that account today.

We have to check into this further, offices are closed. More after we learn more.

Blue Cross Plan Closure

Your current Flexible Blue plan will be closed December 2013. Blue Cross will be mailing you a plan closure notice within the next 2 weeks. Some individuals with qualifying incomes will be eligible for subsidies to help with premiums on the new higher-cost reform-compliant plans. Please contact me for help selecting and enrolling in a new plan.

Wow! What a surprise. And yet there will still be those in favor of Obamacare and supporting it's implementation. Just watch.

I think it may have to do more with what an individual company wants to do. Obama can't control that (at least not yet). I just got a letter from mine saying I can stay with them (which they encourage) or compare rates and switch if I desire. So as much as I don't want to say it, no I don't think he lied.

We shall see, offices are closed now. My guess is that these plans don't meet the Obama Care requirements. I KNOW that the Democrats fought tooth and nail AGAINST passing the law that allowed these plans.

I'm not sure how mine passed or they found a loop hole. I thought for sure it didn't meet the basic requirements of ACA

My daughter received a similar notice from Blue Cross informing her that the particular plan she had for herself and my grand-daughter was being discontinued. Of course she will be eligible for a different and more expensive Blue Cross plan that meets the requirements of ObamaCare. Fortunately, she just found a new job last Friday that's full time and has full benefits including health care. We'll see how long that perk lasts.

Which law was that?

That one that was passed while Bush was in that allowed for health savings accounts, with pre-tax dollars, etc. Those kinds of plans are a FAR better answer to the health care problem. It gives the people far greater control over how their health care dollars are spent. It has been the least expensive and best plan we have ever had.

I can understand why it's the least expensive: you're funding it with your own money. Which makes it a good option for those who have enough money to put chunks aside [like savings], but for those who don't, [which is a huge part of the populace], not so much.
What was the objection to the plan?

Pre-tax dollars could be used, for one. For another, it lets people be independent with their money and their health care expenses.

It's not a coincidence that Obama Care takes a stealthy approach at killing Medical Savings and Flex Pay Accounts. It started in 2011 when Flex cards and MSA (Medical Savings Account) money could no longer be used for OTC medications like aspirin and antacids. Got to have a prescription. Then in 2013 the annual pre-tax contribution was capped at $2,500, which generally will only cover the deductible on prescription drugs, not on medical care. Then, they altered the list of acceptable expenses the MSA could be used for, and it's not as common-sense as you'd think, and if you inadvertently charge an ineligible medical service to your account, you have to pay a 20 percent penalty. And now, finally, the newly implemented Obama Care rules prohibit high deductible plans supplemented by health savings accounts. The health savings account portion will not be counted as part of the policy package (because insurance companies don't get their cut), and it will be ruled as falling below the minimum standard policy that Obama Care requires.

Combine all that with the fact that, with Obama Care, for the first time ever, insurance companies are no longer prohibited or restrained in any way as to how much they can increase health insurance premiums, and there you have it.

And what it boils down to is that, for the first time in my adult life, I MAY not be able to afford to pay for my wife's health insurance. Socialism at it's finest. Tax, tax, tax and restrict control and freedoms. Obama can kiss my grits.

And naturally the BEST possible solution to high insurance costs it to raise the prices. That makes it so even FEWER people can pay for it. Premiums go up, less money for other needs, the economy tanks even more. YEP, socialism at work! More on the dole, fewer working, great plan!

People people people...sure put more of your own money in the health insurance industry loves that. The problem still isnt solved. Think about how do health insurance make money? Deny services or only insure healthy people.....the problem isn't obamacare but dont think its the solution either. In fact don't think really Obama thinks its the entire solution.

A few years back a law was passed that when your Cobra ran out the insurance company had to offer you continuation of the same coverage.
My Cobra ran out and I was offered the same coverage at 4x the price. The Cobra was $1100 or so a month, the new offer was slightly over $5000 per month. For me only. Not the entire family.
