Lynddie English and the Librarty of Congress

I just read that the Library of Congress canceled the speaking engagement of Lynddie English due to the number of threats they received.

The LoC's David Moore arranged for English to speak at the LoC but now complains that free speech is dead. No one is preventing English from speaking in public, just at the LoC.

Morris Davis , another LoC employee told the AP that he refused to go to the event and was glad it was canceled, adding this; "I believe a person who has paid her debt to society has the right to move on with her life, and that applies to Ms. England," Davis said in an e-mail Friday. "I hope she finds a job and can support her child. But to be invited to speak at the library that belongs to the Congress of the United States is an honor, and I just don't believe in honoring the dishonorable."

Lynddie English was not a victim and should have served longer than 3 years. For those who don't know, it wasn't the pictures or 'abuse' that mattered but the sexual goings on that was in the forefront for many of us who expected more from a US soldier.

The sad thing is the LoC should be neutral on the political end of things, inviting English and sheehan to speak is not right and people should be aware of the support of the LoC to promote the victim status for some of these people.

I don't know what happened, but please someone move this to the soup box.

I have had this happen the other day on another forum, maybe it is the linux box I am using, it has been acting strange lately - penguin mating season maybe?

No subject....

OMG, we had a million posts over one deleted thread that the author didn't ask to be deleted and here I asked for this thread to be moved to the soap box and nothing has happened.

Send Leo a PM. He'll move it. He's the expert.

Ah, Lynddie English... or Leash Girl as I prefer to call her. She has a story to tell/sell. Are we to conclude she belongs to a speaker's bureau? Or has she retained the services of a publicist and/or agent? This young woman and her beau brought enormous harm to our nation's war efforts. Part of her sentencing should have included a provision disallowing English to profit from books, movies or speaking engagements detailing her debauchery. An oversight by counsel. What became of the camera boy? As I recall, he could not return to his hometown because of death threats.

Leash Girl too funny. lol

What she and other did were deplorable, yet they had a commanding offer where the buck is supposed to stop. I hold her commanding officers 100% responsible for everything that happened under their command.

Indeed. Her commanding officers should have faced court martial. Instead, they probably received career-ending letters of reprimand in their personnel files.

Agree that post should be moved to the Soapbox [Leo, where are you?] and Ms England's CO should have been held responsible, and the LOC ought to be neutral politically.
Greg's typo [soupbox] is now my 2nd favorite, lol. Right behind Broompilot's classic misspelling of 'dognuts' [doughnuts, or donuts] I may never eat another one. Especially the holes!
