Lawrence,

Wouldn't that be: The greatest challenge as an Owner Operator in 2008 could be..."?

Well anywho...

The greatest challenge as an Owner Operator in 2008 is the ambiguity of stability in the fuel supply and cost followed by more pushing of destructive policies on both the state and federal levels and a further saturation of the expediting company fleets making it harder to compete for all of us.

Oh that is a CR unit by the by.

Our thoughts for "2008" is run smarter with lower freight rates.

We are pro active by preparing ourselves by education, getting all qualifications available to us, staying out of debt and putting away for the future.

making the hard choices and sacrifices that will be needed IF things get as bad as some are suggesting. Of course, running smart and being ambitious will be advantageous regardless of the economy.

Helping to keep our personal expenses down, and saving a little money each week no matter what the loads bring. Maximizing our availability when freight is available. Watching our fuel usage and truck maintenance so that the owner of the truck doesn't have extra expenses that are controllable.

Our greatest challenge in 2008 is the adjustment to high fuel prices. Fuel prices are part of the determining factor when deciding how far to dead head to a busy freight lane. If we deliver freight to a location which is a great distance from a busy freight area we then must decide if it is worth the high price of fuel to head back to the busy freight area or go to an area closer to where we deliver. It is a balancing thing - a little like keeping all the plates spinning.

Our greatest challenge of '08 will be our race to reduce debt in order to stay solvent in the face of economic uncertainty. To find a presidential candidate who will agressively promote a policy of America becoming energy self-sufficient in the nearest possible future, NOT anyone who is interested in maintaining the status quo.

Oh, and world peace.

Our goal for 2008 is to; Do as well as we did in 2007!
There are adjustments that we will make, but I don't see them to be as drastic as some doom and gloomers imply they will be.
The best tool we can use is a Positive Attitude.
