Please take a moment out of your day to pray for the families in CT right now.

Makes most of our moans seem very trivial right now

As many as 27 people have been killed, including many children, in a shooting attack at a primary school in the US state of Connecticut, US media say.

At least a dozen children are among the dead at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, the Associated Press reported.

Earlier, the gunman was reported to have been killed and at least three people were taken to hospital.

A news conference is imminent and the state Governor Dannell Malloy is on his way.

Police arrived at the school soon after 09:40 local time (14:40 GMT), with a full search of the site carried out soon after.

Schools across the district were immediately on lock-down as a preventive measure, officials say.

Meanwhile, the three people who have been taken to hospital are in "very serious condition", Danbury Mayor Mark Boughton told CNN.
'Collecting facts'

There are unconfirmed reports of two shooters, according to a report in the local Hartford Courant newspaper.

As the situation began, police received a call reporting that a gunman was in the school's main office. One person there had "numerous gunshot wounds", the Courant added.

One witness speaking to CNN said that shots were heard coming from the hall. There "must have been 100 rounds" fired, she told the channel.

It is a terrible and tragic situation. Equally terrible and tragic is the fact that none of the correct questions or answers will be forthcoming as a result.

It is now being reported he also killed his mother prior to the school shootings. Sickening ...

Sad. This will likely rejuvenate that ban on assault weapons. What kind of person goes in to a kindergarten class and starts shooting? Certainly one that is crazy or on something.

His Father was found dead in his apartment by NJPD in Hoboken NJ today as well. Seems like there where many issues with Ryan Lanza & his parents.

Now there not sure who did the shooting. Apparently the Ryan Lanza guy had a 20 year old brother that they think did the shooting?

The major effects of it all is the mental anguish of the children in the school and the parents and families ofthe dead children . The trauma will go on for years and many, many mental health issues that may never be healed, that's the rough part or sad part,IMHO>

This is so sad. There's not really a lot we can do to stop these kind of events from happening. Of course the issue of gun control will be brought up, but for now my prayers go out to the families and victims of this tragedy.

Maybe (but I doubt it) this unbelievable tragedy will trigger some thought towards more attention to mental illness that's easily detectable in many instances with children and young adults. The embarassing stigma still seems to be attached to the mentally ill, compared to something physical like AIDS with which everyone seems to sympathize. It seems that there was something mentally wrong with this young man and a few people familiar with him are willing to say so. Parents should be aware of problems, but might not be objective or may be in denial when the symptoms present themselves. Some news reports have suggested the mother of the shooter was a gun enthusiast who may not have kept her firearms secure, in spite of living with a son who might have been mentally ill. Hopefully more information will come out regarding this kid's history.

As a society, we must do a better job of identifying these dangerously troubled young men before they act out so tragically. An intervention by competent mental health professionals can make a big difference in some cases.

It's difficult to believe there weren't a lot of red flags popping up all around young Mr. Lanza.

Yes, there had to be red flags, or it appears someone knew this kid wasnt right in the mind. So, do we start phoning in everyone we feel is a wack-o to the police when we feel or suspect someone may be dangerous? So that said, here is a view about guns..

This makes sense, well to me anyway.

I think this is hard to detect I spent 5yrs in A federal gated community with A room without A view.lived with some of the worst cold blooded killers around including a son of a german diplomat who killed and mutilated the bodies of his girlfreinds parents and being in close quarters with these folks they would all seem normal. Usually the ones trying to be bad were trying to make a name for themselves and make others scared scared of them. The real killers didnt play games or brag about what they did. alot of times you would be totally shocked at their crime after knowing them they just didnt seem like they had it in them.

We also seem to discount the idea that some of these people are just bad, evil people. They MUST be sick because no one could be THAT bad or evil. Not everyone is good. Not every person that commits crimes like this are sick. There can be, and there are, just bad, evil people.

Indeed, evil exists in the hearts of many people. There is no justification for evil whether it is manifested on a small scale or large. Whether it be Mussolini or Stalin or Mao or Reverend Jim Jones or a mass murdering youngster, these people knew right from wrong and chose to kill innocent lives. The temptation to succumb to evil acts is an inherent part of human nature. The presence of a conscience separates man from animals.

Evil exists. The more it is 'pardoned' the more it will take hold.

Yes, there are people who are sick. There are people who commit terrible crimes due to a mental, and even sometimes, a physical illness.

The idea, however, that all men are 'good' and only a 'sick' person could commit such acts is flawed. There are both good and bad people. There always have been and always will.

Part of the problem is the "bad" receives the press, the good, being dominate and the norm, goes ignored. A person kills 27 people. Horrible. 350 million others do not, a fact ignored. The common solution? Punish the 350 million by restricting their liberty and rights.

There are both good and bad people.
The following is a list of these good people, in all of human history:

1. Christ

That's it. Each and every other human being was and is wicked. None of us are any less wicked than Lanza, Jeffrey Dahmer, John Wayne Gacy, etc.
