    Non CDL Truck Question

It has always been my understanding that a CDL is required to drive a truck with air brakes, regardless of it being under or over 26,000#. I was looking at a truck this weekend and the guy at the dealer swore up and down that has changed and a CDL is not required for this truck, a smaller...

Has anyone converted a school bus into an expeditor?

There used to be a guy from Arkansas who drove an old short bus.. He was on with Panther 5 or 6 years ago. It was in pretty rough shape when I saw it. I suspect the mileage would not be conducive to turning a profit.

    anyone familiar with this generator

I do use the TV rooms at some truck stops if I have to wait. Just about every town has a library. I go that route occasionally. As far as coffee, the water doesn't usually have time to freeze before I fire up the van between runs. I don't carry much food with me. I know a sleeping bag in place...

    anyone familiar with this generator

You can get a polar sleeping bag at Cabela's or Gander Mountain for around $120.00. It doesn't need fuel, ther are no moving parts to break, and it'll keep you plenty warm. I don't need to run my generator at all anymore. If it gets below 10, I just get a room.

    Pickup expediter

It likely is an RV hauler. I did that for a while. Officially you are suposed to log when deadheading back, however most carriers provide magnetic signs that can be removed on the way back, giving the illusion of not being a commercial vehicle.

Cutaway cargo van vs standard cargo van

I drive a cutaway van. It is an E 350 with a 12' box, 72" high. It is a single axle, single wheel and has GVW of 9600#, (empty weight of 7400), meaning it does not require logging or scaling. I get about 13 miles per gallon, vs. aproximately 16 mpg in my old van ( standard extended E350). There...

    Airtabs

I have airtabs on my cutaway van. I don't really think they affect my gas mileage that much. I do think they they help the van to hold the road a little better in the wind though.
