Big Truck I work on Hino trucks. I'll answer any questions I know the answers to.

A forum member stopped by the shop a few weeks ago. One complaint was belt squeal. A few shops had looked at it, had replaced the belt and tensioner, no change. Somehow these shops hadn't noticed that the idler pulley had vanished. It had been like that for a while. That fix was pretty...

Spray something on the belt and see if the chirping stops.

    Sprinter Survival Kit?

No Idea. The old Bosch KTS 200 laying around here would sort of work on parts of a sprinter, but it was pretty limited. No one here likes working on them, but the damn things just keep showing up.

    Sprinter Survival Kit?

It took three years to get the boss to upgrade the diagnostic software for other brands that wander in here. Texa is excellent, it has helped every time I've attached it to something. I have a TON of money tied up in tools. It took some convincing to get the keys and alarm sstem code to the...

I sense you've had a few issues with this particular truck. Edit: I found your update. Ouch. That's the thing that they do that I find inexcusable.

Sounds like the belt/belt tensioner needs some attention. The other problem is the valve cover says CAT C7 on it.

I fixed the transmission problem by replacing the injector on cylinder number three and correctly phasing the driveshaft.

I've heard that these interfaces actually do work, right until something accidently updates. Then it becomes dumpster ballast. I don't know for sure. If used to reflash an ecm and it decides to flake out, things get really expensive.

I dont know of any simple scan tool that works on Hino protocol. That should work on abs and transmission though.

    Sprinter Survival Kit?

Texa software works with Sprinters, passenger cars, and heavy duty. Also will communicate with various ABS and transmission controllers. It's also $6000. This was probably not helpful.

    Important! New Ratings System

One of the forums I frequent got rid of their dislike button. No one was mature enough to accept a dislike without bleating about it. Others couldn't constrain themselves and would dislike your entire post history.

The engine is back together, finally. Someone had been in the bottom end before, and some sketchy things were done. Inexplicably, one main bolt looked like it was dragged down a sidewalk until a quarter of one section of the threads were flattened. The circumference of the head's flange was...

If it's the pump, that should be easy enough to solve but I'd do it sooner rather than later. Did they also do a 100 pt check or something like that? Make sure they put everything back together. Like the air filter lid.

    Recommend inverter?

I used to work for the military doing night vision/infrared sensor testing. The only thing that would survive for any period of time inside of an M2 Bradley, M60A3, or a HMMWV was a Trip-Lite. Cheap converters had a lifespan measured in minutes. You could get 6 months out of a Trip-lite...

I don't know if the '08s came with an Aisin either, just some of the 4 cylinder trucks did. They're good, but the Allison is bulletproof. I'd drill the holes if there's low power during a regen. Same pattern and drill size as the 6 cylinder trucks. The valve is smaller on these, and the...

Hi there, After looking at this forum, one might suspect that all of these trucks are riddled with problems. Not true, we're only addressing the ones with issues. Plenty of others are running around without problems. Also, you'll notice trends on what goes wrong with them. Like any model...
