    Qualcomm Charges

We are of course the most familiar with TN & FL, and in general, the states without a state income tax generate the difference through a higher sales tax. Seems to be cheaper to live in a state without the income tax.

    Qualcomm Charges

Probably so on the signs. If I recall there was a post with all the prices from QC. I believe those prices were for a leased unit rather than one purchased.

    Qualcomm Charges

Cost will vary depending on the unit. Use to be 1200 to 1400 for a purchase. Not sure now with some of the new ones. Escrow from most carriers is substantially higher than the actual cost to remove it. Might be a problem if the majority of drivers quit after the first week, but my guess is...

    Personal Conveyance Use Of Truck

They pretty much had the PC at the time of the switch. Panther currently allows 30 minutes when not under load. At the time (several years ago) is where the 30 minutes came from. May move to 45 minutes but hasn't been done as of yet. For clarification, the 30 minutes is per driver. If you...

    Personal Conveyance Use Of Truck

Because they aren't directing the movement of the vehicle when someone is on PC. The liability shifts to the driver. Doesn't mean they won't get sued, but their exposure is much more limited when there is no directive from them. Anyone can sue anything and everyone, but to win a decision is a...

C.V. Business Plan (Start Up) Ideas Wanted

I would agree with this. I don't know of any place that would have this requirement on a cargo van unless maybe you are trying to finance a lot of them at the same time.

    Personal Conveyance Use Of Truck

The insurance you have when not under load is what will be used. As to the Fed getting sued, anything is fair game. Whether they win or not is another story.

    Qualcomm Charges

Several truckload carriers are charging in the $11.00 to $12.00 range. No specifics on what capabilities are offered outside of tracking.

    Qualcomm Charges

I agree with Leo. For the most part, they are a profit center for the carrier if they are charging 25 to 35 per week. If a large carrier has say 1000 trucks and they are skimming 20 off the top per vehicle, that is a extra 20k they are scooping up per month. If they are doing that many trucks...

    Texas Border Closings

Not sure on Sequin on a Sunday, but there should be stuff coming out of Laredo or Eagle Pass.

    Texas Border Closings

Loads were going out last night but they weren't NLM loads. We had a truck load out today from Brownsville, TX but not sure whether that shipment came over the border last night or today?

Driver Pay Falling as Demand Rises, Study Shows

It is a give and take. Since we are at a large carrier, we will do a favor for specific people that ask and can deliver on the end of that favor. The new ones or bs'ers with load amnesia might get us once, but they won't get us a second time.

Driver Pay Falling as Demand Rises, Study Shows

I think carriers that are into that repetitive game playing will be paying a price before too long. Just reading the many posts on here shows many got complacent, then got behind, then tried to make up the financial shortfall on the backs of operators, to where we are now. Change is coming if...

Driver Pay Falling as Demand Rises, Study Shows

I would define cheap freight as freight ran continuously below a operators cost for all miles. Whether OOIDA or several other places, one can get within 20 percent of a per mile average using their calculations. A paid for truck and other items won't change that number that much short of...

Driver Pay Falling as Demand Rises, Study Shows

Interesting article. Might be worth a read for many of the expedite carriers. We have all seen the posts and seen many of the actions. Game playing drivers, pitting drivers against each other in a bidding process to cover something cheap, reduced rate loads, reduction in rates, and the list...

FedEx Custom Critical vs Panther Expedited

Agree with the others. Takes awhile to research what is the best fit for you. Maybe a place to start and work your way backwards. http://www.expeditersonline.com/forum/general-expediter-forum/41822-1-20-mile-expedite-freight-2.html

Signing on with more than one carrier

I would say to make sure you have adequate insurance coverage and know what is and isn't actually covered. I think PJJ was spot on. With regards to Panther broker loads, they are pretty open unless it is a difficult customer to collect from. Since they do the collecting, it is only fair that...

    1.20 /mile expedite freight

Makes sense to me. Our FSC has been in the 30 range. Some alittle higher and some lower. The lowest seems to be goverment loads at 22, but the rate is 1.55 with some reefers getting 1.75 plus that .22 cents.
