The suction control valve does have a few codes that pertain to it specifically, but they rarely fail that way. Instead, they just stick a little. P0087 Low rail pressure and P0088 high rail pressure are often caused by the scv sticking. I'm not sure I remember our conversation that well...

Yep. It shouldn't run out. In the clear sight window, there's a line that indicates the full mark. Granted, in this case too much would be a whole lot better than not enough.

    Hino Drivers or O/O

I'm a Hino mechanic, and I have some input. 1. If they're taken care of, they'll go a million. Most of the ones that I work on are from small fleets and they're rotated out of service before the mileage gets astronomical. We have seen some ratty, disgusting trucks with close to a million on...

    Dac report

Every truck that rolls into our shop for a PM gets the hub oil level AND condition checked (metal flakes, water?). If there isn't a wheel sim in the way, this literally takes seconds. I hate wheel sims, btw. Should be done on every pre-trip, also.

What are the first 8 digits of the VIN? I'm assuming it's 5PVNV8JT. As long as all of the tires are all the same size, the ABS will be unaffected. I'm trying to look up the speed/rpm data now. This has air bags on the rear, right?

The actual coolant temp sensor only has two wires in it, and it doesn't really matter if they get reversed. Can you take a pic of this plug and post it here? If you're having weird temp fluctuations, pull the intercooler off and hose down the radiator with cleaner, let it soak, spray it with a...

Hey there, The camshaft housings do sometimes leak a little, but it's much more common that the head gaskets leak on the right rear side, in the corner where the idler gear is kept. Something to look at. If you have to take a cam housing off, be aware that the cam bearing cap bolts have two...

I think this is the de-facto Hino advice thread. There are no other in depth sources, which makes this one the best by default. :D

Good question. I don't know if it comes separately. There's nothing remarkable about the compressor or clutch. I imagine a new/reman/aftermarket clutch can be obtained if the compressor model is identified.

An amendment to some earlier posts I made: the dpf is in danger of melting at around 1450* F. The max dpf inlet and outlet temps are saved in the ecu. Dpf outlet temps in excess of around 1450 would warrant an inspection of the dpf inlet and outlet. This data is something I'd want to see if...

As coalminer mentioned, the VNT controller linkage has a tendency to stick if they aren't exercised frequently. Get an aerosol can of Loctite nickel antiseize and spray it on both joints on the linkage. Loctite 51286 | Anti-Seize Lubricant Generally I've seen this stuff for $40/can, so the...

    Hard cold start mystery 3126

When the fuel pump starts to crap out, you'll see metal debris in that valve on the back of the head. It's important to address if you find metal, it'll wipe out the injectors. Injector o-rings can leak, causing loss of prime. Is there an unexplainable loss of oil? Is the fuel black? Is the...

Hinos really, really like clean fuel and fresh filters. It keeps the injectors in good shape. Their recommended intervals are something like 20k miles, but we've seen some engine wear with oil change intervals pushed that far apart. Besides, they only hold about 12 quarts of oil. 10k mile...

This dealer...is it a Hino dealer? I've had a cabover up to 75-80. Sounds like the speed limiter has been set to a low number, like 63 mph. This, and a bunch of other customization parameters can only be accessed with Hino Diagnostic Explorer software.

The L96 is light years ahead of the 350 of yesteryear, and even better than the MkIV big blocks. It outta do fairly well, but I'd still like a diesel. Maybe I'm biased. They came with different horsepower/torque ratings. I'd test drive a similar gasser, if possible. Here's some engine specs...

No problem. What's powering the Isuzu? GM LS engine? The NPRs with the Chevy 350s were always disappointing slugs, IMO. An LS engine would probably do alright, power-wise.

Hi there. The little 195 COEs are cool little trucks. Unlike the 2005-2014 conventional chassis trucks, the COE is entirely Japanese in manufacture. There is no reason why the exhaust brake can't be easily fixed under warranty. It sounds like it's just in the switch. Ain't the first time a...

If there's truly no fuel restriction, no power out of the hole, P0087, and the brake switches are not the cause, then an SCV is a reasonable thing to try. You may want to check the rail pressure relief valve for leakage too. Generally this causes a P0087 only at full throttle, high load. The...
