    2008 Hino 258

Were you able to get the history codes from the dash display? That would help me tremendously. The truck will only allow a manual regen when the DPR meter on the dash is at three bars or higher. It will automatically regen without you even knowing it. How many bars are on the DPR meter? The...

Howdy. Using the mode button and select/ set-reset toggle, cycle through the dash menu until you find 'system check'. Press up (pretty sure) once on the toggle. It'll say 'No Faults'. Press up and hold the toggle until the screen changes, it may take a few seconds. History faults should pop...

We're doing an experiment on a customer's truck (with permission). There's a hundred different customization options with PTOs, regens with PTO running, etc. No official method on how to do a manual or auto regen with the PTO active, but I found a combination that works. Will update when I...

Whenever the truck hits three bars, it will try to auto regen. If the vehicle comes to a stop, or the exhaust brake is used, or if its shut off, it will attempt it again when it once again starts moving. So you can either drive without coming to a complete stop for a few miles, or you can do a...

With that screenname ,I figured you had a fleet of airport stair cars Right now, there is no appoved method of doing a regen with the pto on. However, I'm sure it is possible. There are enough settings in the customization menus to set it up to do anything you want, and I'm sure there is a...

that's the one. Make sure the little heat shield on the front of the exhaust manifold still exists, or the new one will quickly fry. Might check that labor cost, it only takes about 4 hours to swap. Unless a bolt breaks, which is entirely possible.

If I'm not mistaken, you've got a button under the dash you can push to retrieve abs codes. However, nothing in the ABS will turn on the check engine light. No generic code reader that I'm aware of will get anything out of the engine.

With the radiator cap on, it will force air into the overflow tank, usually a small stream of bubbles. I would do a combustion gas test before tearing the head off. You may be able to save some time and money on a truck or two.

Well, not many people have offered a good "why" explanation, but I know the water pump is sometimes the source of air bubbles in the cooling system. It usually happens when the carbon seal just starts to fail, and a little residue starts showing at the weep hole. You might have to resort to...

Any body having problems with a 2012 sprinter ?

Trucks are getting more and more proprietary with their computers and programming, so very soon generic scan tools are going to be nearly obsolete. They're not as bad as in the automotive world, but they're getting there. You're pretty close on the Def/SCR system, but it's even more complex...

Because of this thread, a woman in TN is going to confront the task of rebuilding the engine in her Hino by herself, with a little help from me and a little help from her friends. She got ahold of a repair manual, and I'm going to talk her through the parts that don't make sense (anyone who's...

Step one: replace fuel filter. P0087 is low fuel rail pressure. On a truck with 480k, it's likely one of two things: a blockage in a fuel line (happens more often than you'd think), or a failing suction control valve (aka fuel pressure regulator). It's a shiny metal cylinder looking thing on...

What year is the truck? Early trucks use a little handheld computer thingy that you use to change the speedometer coefficient. I don't think we even have one, I've never seen it. A rarely used tool. Newer trucks = hooking up the diagnostic computer and clicking a mouse several times. I'm...

That would make changing the speedometer correction factor a heck of a lot easier, lol. Edit: I walked right into that one, didn't I?

Early on, the burner was a constant source of trouble. Several changes have been made, especially with the software in the burner control unit. It has several modes of self-protection now. Pretty much immediately after the first of these changes went into effect, I've noticed a steep drop in...
