****. It really sounds like the VNT controller is dying. The only hope at this point is a CAN error from a bad ground or flaky battery, but I'd be prepared for the inevitable turbo swap.

It very well could fix it. Sometimes on the 05-07 trucks, there will be CAN faults with no P0045, which means the computer can't talk to the VNT at all. The P0045 generally means the ecu can't control the VNT properly, like if its sticking. If there's a broken wire, Id expect to see Can faults...

Yes, like I had mentioned, it will automatically regen whenever the graph hits three bars. This will occur with no indication from the dash unless you come to a complete stop. Since the exhaust is so hot, the amber caution message on the dash pops up to remind you not to park near anything...

Yes, the vanes or linkage get stuck, and the effort burns up the controller. With the ignition off, it should move with a gentle shove.

If you've got aerosol nickel antiseize, spray it on both joints of the linkage and where the link goes into the turbine housing. From underneath the truck, you can push up on the linkage with a long screwdriver. Maybe someone can stand on the right front tire and push it back down. Work it...

I don't think vnt controllers are available separate for ANy year. If someone knows where to get them, let me know! Fuel pressure high and low can also trigger limp mode. You want to get the codes before replacing something unnecessary. Price is dependent on individual dealer markup...

You're not doing anything wrong. Compared to this truck, what rpm was your old truck turning at say 100kph? The Hino is running between 1650-1700 rpm, correct? There's a switch near the shifter, labeled pwr/econ, correct? If you were to stick in in pwr, it'll delay upshifts (it will rev...

It makes 220 hp. How much did the VT365 make? Do you know what the rear end gear ratio is? What's the engine rpm at say, 60mph?

Big Truck I work on Hino trucks. I'll answer any questions I know the answers to.

There are two different things going on with the exhaust system. One part of it removes soot from the exhaust. The other part gives a serious reduction in the amount of nitrogen oxides the engine emits. I don't know why they insist on calling the first part a DPR, it's a DPF (diesel...

Hi there. Generally speaking, we tell people to leave the exhaust brake off when you are driving unless you need it, as it has disrupted the auto regen process. This is less of an issue now that lots of computer reprogramming has been done. The 2015 should be largely unaffected by this...

    Hino vs. Freightliner

If you are thinking of a NEW Hino, the 2013 COEs and 2015 conventionals have improved the dpf heating system. While a massive amount of effort was put into getting the 11-14 burner system working reliably (and they are reliable now), the 2015 is going to utilize a different setup (similar to...

    Hino vs. Freightliner

One criteria that I'd look at: Who will be doing the maintenance and repairs, and are they any good at it? For example, if your local FL dealer is a bunch of idiots, then I wouldn't buy a FL.

    Hino turbo

Re: !! There are several things that can cause low power like you're describing. Without the code, it's really a crapshoot. The dealer probably pulled a P0045, VNT abnormality. While it's probably going south, sometimes they just get stuck. Spray the VNT linkage with aerosol Loctite...

    Hino turbo

No sync necessary, it will take care of itself. Their lifespan? That varies. First, it's considered normal for them to pass a little oil. They all do it. It gets a little trickier on trucks 2008-up since they got rid of the road draft tube. crankcase gases get pulled in before the turbo, so...

I'm not sure he'll want to drive halfway across the country for it, but I'll run it by him. Thank you. We're going to be doing this in his backyard, so I want the engine to be plug-n-play. Getting the transmission out with a transmission jack on a piece of plywood is gonna be fun. I guess...
