Implications of new 34 hour restart rule

Ok...that was my point. It is the new rule coming that will create the problem. Not anything under the current ones.

Implications of new 34 hour restart rule

If the break is mandatory for the 30 minutes in the first eight hours, how much fuel you have or don't isn't relevant. Of course you could/maybe burn that 30 minutes on the front end but that would be the only way to do it.

Implications of new 34 hour restart rule

Phil is correct. As it works now, one of the people in a team is on duty. With putting a break in there, that would be happening while there other is doing their 10 hour sleeping time. That is where the problem is. Two people would be off duty for that 30 minute break. That is a problem on some...

Multiple Carrier Operation - Straight Trucks

The other option would be to get on with a carrier that allows you to broker your own freight using their authority. They do take a percentage but going it alone will likely have higher intitial costs. This concept is probably better suited if running straights or tractors but you could it in...

    The Driver Shortage

I don't believe there is a shortage of drivers. Just a shortage of good drivers. CSA does nothing but create a revolving door. New entrants have a clean record because they haven't been driving. Duh! That is much different than whether they know what they are doing or have the...

Implications of new 34 hour restart rule

If you have a QC, most pretend they are looking at it and then hand it back. I'm not sure a lot of them know how to read the thing.

Implications of new 34 hour restart rule

I think in expediting it would be rare that you would need to reset in back to back weeks. Only scenerio I can see that is if a team is doing numerous DDP loads. In those cases one wouldn't be (or hope not) running them at a standard fair.

Implications of new 34 hour restart rule

Ok...that was basically my understanding. You are correct on a delivery time at something past 1am. It would automatically add a third day. Which of course makes no sense. Well actually it does. Someone making rules that isn't in trucking. I don't think it will impact us too bad if...

Implications of new 34 hour restart rule

My understanding is it can be used only once per week. I can't find anything that says you can't use it until you hit the 70 hour max. So if the truck broke down and you were out for several days, I don't see anything stopping that assuming you haven't used it already that week. New changes...

    Panther Expedite Names New CEO

I wouldn't have been sold on a move from ABF to Panther. Just too different operations. I think they made the right call. But they did bring Andy Clarke from a truckload operation and it seemed to work fairly well. Time will tell I guess like all these companies that make changes.

    What's up?

While a lot of it is political, I think there is quite a bit that has not been told. Just seems like a little too much secrecy around the whole thing.

    Leftist Censorship?

While my preference is Fox News over the other cable news outlet (except maybe bbc) they all have a slanted bias one way or the other. I think MSNBC and others are more obvious with the left slant and Fox has its moments as well if looking objectively, but they look so much better when they do...

    Question Regarding Whirlwind Express

Rather than the back and forth it might be easier just to address what involvement there is or isn't with regards to monies owed from past invoices. I guess after that one could follow with what folks from WW would or wouldn't be doing and the degree of engagement with a new business. If...

Our Freightliner Nightmare Continues. Your Opinions, Please.

Sorry to hear that. I hope some carriers read some of these adventures and have a realization or education as to why many won't run cheap freight. This is one of the many reasons.

Amtrak: Losing Money on the $10 Hamburger

As the government makes these "investments", it seems every one of them is a loss to the taxpayer. Gee....lets expand light rail everywhere with these outstanding results.

    Question Regarding Whirlwind Express

That "helping with the payroll" is more than likely to determine how much in the hole they are. Can't imagine someone taking a carrier over for the purpose of paying off the debt owed to drivers. Especially if the numbers on here are anywhere accurate. Might help things going forward but I...

Our Freightliner Nightmare Continues. Your Opinions, Please.

So far the detroit engines seem to be holding up well. Do agree on the FLT dealerships though, the good ones are getting harder and harder to find. I hope AJ gets their truck back today as sometimes the simpliest repairs can turn into days. I swear no one has a parts department any more.

    slow freight

The availability of loads overall seems less in January but I am also seeing quite a few more companies fighting over the same freight. I would anticipate some smaller outfits going by the wayside this year if it stays slow for another quarter. A spike in fuel prices will also affect the smaller...
