2005 Sprinter second and reverse only

About to buy 2005 long and tall sprinter, under 200000 miles, price 4000 (thats 2900 to all you Americans) Transmission has only reverse and 2nd gear...am i correct in guessing TCM wiring / control unit in trans? Has anyone had this exact problem? I'm comfortable playing with transmissions...

Cargo Van Lost route...need advice on van

That's great mileage! I put a million miles on a 7.3 diesel ford at 21 mpg, didn't care if loaded either, just speed...unfortunately can't find an Aerocell CW around here so i'm looking at a rusty sprinter with trans stuck in limp mode...turned down yet another good paying load yesterday 15...

Thanks guys, I'm a little more reassured, sounds like pretty standard stuff I'm capable of fixing so far

    Sprinter Survival Kit?

You got my budget right on :D only was looking at Aerocell for mileage not "box" cubes, and canadian due to import hassles...my current delusion is an 05 Sprinter, 150000 miles for $4000 (comes with 2nd gear only and decorative brown spots)

    Sprinter Survival Kit?

Good to know, I'm only getting 100k out of them in my Dodge Ram van...everything has to come off the front of motor, it sucks

    Sprinter Survival Kit?

Thanks! Good lists, looks like you guys have had the experience of a silly hard to get part stranding you for no good reason...I have looked at Autoenginuity also, was just not sure if it actually worked...you both mention water pumps, is it hard to get or reasonably doable roadside?

    Sprinter Survival Kit?

I'm the mechanic :D that's why I'm asking...I've never found a competent one, I can absorb everything I need to know (eventually) with the internet and waiting time, looking for what I need to have on me for that deserted highway at 3 am...EGR valve? Other common failures?

Thx, how about code reader? I know about DRB III since I have a Dodge Ram, anything less pricey that works good?

    Sprinter Survival Kit?

Through everyone sharing their experience, I've decided to purchase an Aerocell GMC/Chevy 6.0 gas cargo van. However, there is NOT ONE for sale in an area of 8 million people. They must be good! Sprinters, there are thousands for sale of all types...I could have an 07 long and tall with 200K...

Cargo Van Lost route...need advice on van

Sure does. Enough people are talking about the 6.0 GM, I'm pretty well settled on it...thanks for posting the weight, I also carry tools so I can ballpark my capacity...15 MPG works for the loads im getting with CNG or propane / gas dual fuel

    just need some quick answers

I made a note of what you said...I'm holding off for now, I know the Ford wouldn't get that but it's 10 grand and clean...cheapest I've seen in the Chevy version is 16000, I'm trying to avoid payments if I can...thanks

Pretend I'm stupid (it's not a stretch) why does it matter how many gears when the overdrive ratio is the same? Ford 5 speed and 4 speed 0.71 and 0.70

Ok...gear change I could do myself...same van with 3.73 MPG? Anyone? Would the 5.4 fall on its face with 3.55? Thanks billg27

    just need some quick answers

I had the thought, unsure the difference in mpg it would make...a bubble van would work for me, can't find any around with the rear barn doors...I don't want to end up spending close in payments to the long and tall 2015 Transit I saw sell for $20,000 for an older truck when all is...

I got a hunch you're right, my current van is 13 years old, is set up for loose boxes and won't run on gasoline or diesel! I'm just jumpin at the first thing I see
