Boy Publicly Punished For Disrespecting Teacher - Sacramento News Story - KCRA Sacramento

SACRAMENTO, Calif. --A boy whose mother said he was "just not respecting authority" was publicly punished by holding up an apology sign on a busy street corner.

Ahmad Rollins, 11, apologized to fifth-grade teacher with a three-hour stint on Truxel Road and West El Camino Avenue after a recent outburst.

"He called him a *******," mother Cassandra Rollins said.

The woman said she and the boy's father said they thought it was time to take the punishment to another level.

"I am not going to call my teacher any names, or call anyone any names anymore," Ahmad Rollins said. "Some kids from my class made fun of me, a girl from my class almost fell out the window laughing."

Cassandra Rollins said it's important to support teachers. She said since the punishment, she's seen a change in her son. She's hoping that the punishment serves him as a reminder that there is such a thing as tough love.

"It's important to respect authority, and I hope parents agree with me," Cassandra Rollins said.

The boy's teacher saw the apology sign, and even came out to meet him while he was outside.

Ahmad Rollins said he hopes to become an artist one day and that he promises he'll be on the straight and narrow from now on.

That's what parents need to do these days. Kids are being brought up without any regard to respect or morality.

Back in the day, kids were taught to say yes ma'm and sir. Thank you and please. and if you happened to backhand your parents, you probably didn't do it again.

Todays world is one of disrespectful and nasty talking kids everywhere.

I'm proud of the parent that did this. Maybe he won't grow up to be a hoodlum.

I would not be surprised to find out that these parents end up getting in trouble for this. I mean, after all, they might have hurt "little Johnnies" self-esteem!!! Geez, if a parent just smacks his little darlin' on the butt these days they get arrested for child abuse. What a change. I remember nice paddles with holes in them in the schools!! I guess all that is why you could hear a pin drop in a classroom that held 56 grade school kids!! We learned too!! We had to or we would get whooped for not learning!

Don't forget in the "old days" what the kids got at school when they got in trouble usually paled in comparison to what happened when they got home.

(Remember parental responsibility and involvement?)

I often joke with my wife that "Swats were never really meant for the kids, but for the teachers as a way of reducing stress!"

Public humiliation needs to be considered for the judicial system. I remember, not too long ago, one judge paddled juvenile criminals. The ones they interviewed said that hurt worse than anything... having their peers witness it.

I say bring back the stocks in front of the courthouse. I can see a definite decline in gang violence if these kids are made to kneel in front of their peers. And the fear of a rival gang capping him while he's helpless.

Want to cut down on crime? Make it illegal for anyone with a felony to play pro sports. That would slow down a lot of pro sports wanna bees.

Something about that doesn't mesh with the Constitution, for some reason. Almost sounds like Leo's "kill em all" philosophy.

Probably not, but it would work. That is what amendments are for. Unlike Obama, I do not believe in circumventing or ignoring the Constitution and Bill of Rights.

Don't accuse me of ignoring the Constitution. Look to the
White House and the Congress for that. I just floated an idea, if it don't pass mustard, it don't. I still believe in that wonderful document and the oath that I swore to protect it. Too bad so many others, like Obama, don't.

For the most part, it is a fallacy to believe that any of these descriptive terms constitutes a single monolithic ideology that all adherents believe in, or agree with 100% ..... people tend to think around specific issues .... as opposed to the entirety of a whole political philosophy .....
