Hmmm The CEO blames barry and his policies for his not hiring anymore American people to work in the US plants they have here...and for his taking the company totally out of the US....but then barry did say that the reason for our job losses were because companies were too concerned with making a profit then they were about the "whole picture"......

Obama Job Summit:
Another Manufacturer Opts Out of U.S.A.

Emerson

On November 11, David N. Farr, Chairman, CEO and President of Emerson Electric Co., announced at the Baird 2009 Industrial Conference in Chicago that President Obama has succeeded in chasing his multi-billion dollar industry right out of the U.S.A. Why? Onerous regulation, high taxes, and the over $1 trillion Obama debt should be reason enough for any business to consider shutting down U.S. facilities and seeking greener pastures overseas says Farr.

The federal government is “doing everything in [its] manpower [and] capability to destroy U.S. manufacturing,” says David Farr, chairman and CEO of Emerson Electric Co., in a presentation at the Baird 2009 Industrial Conference in Chicago Ill., on Nov. 11. In comments reported by Bloomberg, Farr added that companies will continue adding jobs in China and India because they are “places where people want the products and where the governments welcome you to actually do something. I am not going to hire anybody in the United States. I’m moving. They are doing everything possible to destroy jobs.”

During his slide show on the state of Emerson’s business, Farr noted that the “unprecedented job loss experienced in this recession will result in a much slower U.S. recovery” and the federal government is making matters worse. The slide reports that the job loss this time is by many magnitudes worse than previous recessions. Noted are job losses from several recessions: 1980 with 1 million jobs lost; 1982 with 2.8 million; 1990 with 1.5 million; 2001 with 2.7 million. Finally Farr notes that we’ve seen a whopping 7.3 million jobs lost thus far (and climbing) in this 2008-2009-2010 recession.

And the culprit? Obama’s government interference. Farr’s presentation noted the following:

Our Government at Work to Help the U.S. Economy Grow:

$1.41T Deficit 10% of GDP
$12T of Government Debt Going to $20+T in 10 yrs
Print more money – “Quantitative Easing”
Non-Targeted $800B Stimulus
Wall Street & Car Bailouts
Cap & Tax Legislation?
Government Healthcare takeover: $1+T
Taxes and Regulations (increasing)
Lack of U.S. $ Support

Emerson reported that sales for the 2009 fiscal year fell to $21 billion, down from $25 billion in 2008. An operating profit of $3.2 billion was earned in 2009.

Another key to Emerson’s decision to continue its overseas development is the rapid growth of its emerging markets. 2009 sales to emerging markets rose at a quick pace reaching $6.7 billion and is projected to reach $12 billion by 2014.

Between 1999 and 2009 “73 percent of growth is from emerging markets!” Farr exclaims. “More than 60 percent of our growth is expected to come from emerging markets over the next five years so Emerson will continue to invest in these key markets.”

Obama’s government with its discouraging interference in the market and the deleterious effects that has had on the national business climate all tends to make foreign shores seem very attractive for American business. At a time when the U.S. is losing almost as many jobs as the last four recessions combined Obama is making the business climate much worse with his policies. But, this shouldn’t surprise anyone. Barack Obama is a good ol’ Illinois pol, after all. And Illinois ranks among the worst business climates in the country.

Hi
Just another reason for me to never buy Emerson products. They have been closing US plants and sending jobs over seas for atleast 10 years that I know of.What really bites is the fact that they bought March Electric out in 1999 and instantly closed the Cambridge Ohio plant.Their reason back then was wages and labor disputes. Why doesn't Mr Farr admit that he wants to pad his bank account at our expense.
I think we should put a huge tariff on all products that use to be made in this country and are now foriegn made.I also think that these executives should be barred from re-entering the country. They pull out of this country and go to another, then if things dont work out they run back here and we welcome them back with open arms and tax breaks.I feel if you leave your gone.Sink or swim boys or in less supple terms "blank you too".

And that is where OBama should be concentrating..small business/large...incentives/corporate tax cuts and tariffs. All his talk has done nothing for the small business man.

With the HC pending he is only going to drive them out and make it more expensive for them to do business here...
Once a small company hires their 51st employee they will get a $34.000 HC tax bill....

OH NO OVM, Barry is doing this to HELP small business compete with the rest of the world. That is one of HIS big selling points on the National Un-Healthy plan. Could he be less than honest?

gee, ya mean no usa business left the shores to build overseas before obama? guess i was born yesterday.

levi strauss has been made overseas since the 80's. by 1979 all the jeans coming into the country were mexican or asian made. levi's started going out of the country to compete in their market place.

lands end was a usa company until sears bought them and sold their well made product in their stores. sears started the foreign content of lands end clothing to asia and the 'stans.

emerson is known as a cheap electronics company for years. personally i would never own an emerson product knowingly. did this fella say anything about black and decker? b&d ceased american production years ago but no one is blaming clinton or bush for that afaik. nafta started the run and emerson is just blaming obama and idiots believe them. it is the proit margin that is driving them out. americans are spoiled and want everything cheap so it goes off shore and jobs are lost. this is a nation heading downward folks not upward. we are dependant on other countries supplying us what we do not want to pay for to keep jobs here.

get real cd. cut and paste something that is not news to americans.

It has been going on for YEARS but Obama promised to stop it and keep the jobs here. The drain is accelerating, not slowing, which is what I expected of this administration. His planned tax increases will REALLY speed things up.

The export of jobs started in the 50's and has continued for a number of reasons.

One of the biggest contributors has been the export of our way of life. If one looks at it this way, sees where the jobs went to and why, then they can understand how to solve the problems.

GM for example wants to find a CEO who can market their product in Asia - understand the Asian market - but the real issue for them and what caused their demise has always been a lack of understanding the home market. They will no doubt export more jobs to fulfill the needs of that market without really thinking about the home market and pinned their hopes on cars that they think will sell, the Volt and others - which is how they got in trouble in the first place. It is said that they would have been better off not being saved.

The first statement is true. I would disagree with the second, though, at least as far as saying it's because we're "spoiled". It's because cheap is what we can afford to pay for, IMO. It's also why we buy unhealthy processed food when the budget is tight: not because we don't KNOW that fresh vegetables & fruits and lean meat & fish are better, but because the good stuff costs too much! :(
Between the jobs that left and the jobs available today, lies a pretty big difference in income. How many "Payday Loan' places or Dollar Stores even existed until the manufacturing jobs left?

Yup. I totally agree.

This has been happening for years. We've seen loads of companies pull out of Canada and go to the southern US as well as Mexico (free trade thing). Now of course all clothing and other such mfg has moved overseas to China. Electronics is moving to China, India and other Asian countries due to the cost of labour. We now have more warehouses around who do not employ people as employees but rather through agencies. You're going the same way. More distribution points with only a few employees and the rest are from temp agencies who pay less and offer no benefits. Pay levels will drop from $18/hr to $10-12/hr with some making a bit more. This also means a reduction in expediter loads as the warehouses will not be doing as much emergency shipping like a manufacturer would.
So look for more Schenker, Ceva, Kuehne & Nagel places opening up in more cities.

Just look at any of the big cities. Warehouses...miles of them..Logistics.
Companies moving to Mexico might be bad for the country in large BUT for us expediters it is a gold mine..
How many miles would you be getting if not for Border runs? And border to border transfers? The market is huge for us right now..

True, but the number off loads passing through all those nice new distribution points will drop off dramatically if and when a cross-border Mexican trucking programs gets up and running. Remember, it is all about putting us out of work. You will be easier to control if you are a "ward of the State"
