Cheerleader

I have been accused of being a cheerleader for my carrier. I appreciate the recognition because I am proud of that as I have a lot to cheer about! I believe if you are not a cheerleader for your company then you are at the wrong company. Our youngest daughter is a Captain in the Air Force and she enjoys her job and has many good things to say about what she is doing. Our oldest daughter does an on line apartment finder thing that she really enjoys and she also speaks very well of what she does. I would not like to do either of their jobs and I see many things they do that would drive me nuts. I sure do not want to tell Brandy how the Air Force should change, nor do I tell Nicki how 4-Rent should change. They like what they are doing, how they are doing it and for who they are working and I respect that.

I believe all of this negative talk on other carriers does a disservice to the carrier, to the contractors to that company and to people interested in that company. If you are not with that company, you are just posting third party information or in reality just plain old gossip. If you want to know what is really going on you need access to the company and if you do not run for that company you do not have that access.

There have been many goofy posts about FedEx Custom Critical not having showers, not having a drivers lounge, and not being able to park in the parking lot all night long, not being able to walk in any door unescorted. I believe most of these posts were made by people who have never been with FCC or from former drivers and a few that are still here. We see absolutely no problems with any of these policies and having been to the office many times all of the above makes perfect sense to us.

Let’s go back to how EO was first conceived. It was a bunch of drivers getting together helping each other out not posting questionable third party information and ridiculing carrier policies or carrier cheerleaders. We all enjoyed the good times together and we are now all suffering these trying times together. Let us vow to keep these forums civil, enjoyable and educational as we move forward.

Team, good post. When anyone runs their carrier or any employer down, to me it just undermines both ends of the relationship. If one of my employees isn't happy with something, tell me about , but ranting and raving just doesn't fit in good business pratices. As I said, i'd rateh pay a person a moths severence and wish them good luck in finding a place to work that they would enjoy then have that same employee working in my business and being miserable...that benefits no one.

Good post Linda...but in reality it isn't going to happen...This site is now approaching 10,000 members real soon....there is too much history, sorrow, heartache, broken promises, failures for that too happen...griping, speaking 3rd party is the norm...Many members have been with multiple carriers, treading water trying to find the "FIT" and never do...the high failure rate is proof of this...
The one story I haven't heard yet is a recruiter tell someone they won't "fit" in this profession. ie: young driver, family @ home, leader of the Boy Scouts...in other woeds a home body.

Go Go Express-1...:)

And it should not happen. This forum is a place to find information about the expediting industry and if all you read are warm glowing reports about the carriers than this forum becomes useless. You need the negative posts and the positive posts together which start good discussions.

What's goofy about that,is it not true?

Who else is left?

You don't have a problem with when you go to that huge building, the only place that you can access on your own is a room the size of a closet with a security guard watching you?

Been here since 2002 and never saw anything like what you are talking about here on EO.

You can vow all you want, but I don't see it happening.

For anyone looking for negativity, they sure hit pay dirt on this site. A lot may be hearsay, or sour grapes, some to me are amusing.

Yeah, well, just keep in mind that the function of a cheerleader is lead spectators in cheering for your team, even when the team sucks, or more to the point, especially when your team sucks. In sports, the team's shortcomings and faults are there on the field of play for everyone to see, so the cheerleaders try to rally the crowd in the face of these faults.

In business, a company cheerleader does the spectators a disservice as the company's shortcomings are not necessarily known to all, thus the cheerleading runs the very real risk of becoming disingenuous. You can keep on cheering in the face of bad pass blocking and in spite of fumbles, because everyone can see it on the field, but if you do that for a company without mentioning the sacks and turnovers, you're doing the spectators a grave disservice.

The best company cheerleader is a pragmatic one, as opposed to an idealistic one.

Linder, I agree, but only to a point. You're correct that those who trash their carrier don't make themselves look terribly smart, but the negative has as much value IMO as the praise. Both wannabes and carriers should hear both sides, the better to make informed decisions. What we need to promote is facts and civility, not tantrums and wild generalizations (too many trucks! Dispatchers play favorites!)
EO has an excellent reputation, but if it becomes nothing but "the good stuff" about carriers, dispatchers, brokers, etc, we aren't being honest or fair to anyone.
There are policies and practices that could be revised, if we go about it the right way, and that justifies speaking up, I think. The cold hard truth is that sometimes, wrongs need to be exposed publicly in order to be changed. As long as it's done with reason, instead of anger, I think it should be done.
For what it's worth, I'm very happy with my choice of carriers, even though they aren't any more perfect than I am. :)

It would be far more helpful than telling the truth.

A call for censorship cannot be far behind.

Every carrier has qualities that are praise worthy and every carrier has a few warts. There is room for pointing out both in a civil manner with actual facts and not hearsay or juvenile ranting. Some people have a pretty good relationship with a carrier and I am happy for those people. The carrier I was leased to before going independent was the same way. There were things I really liked about them and things that bugged me. I tried not to get too hung up on one or the other. They were a decent company to drive for and I don't regret the time I spent there. Does that make me a cheerleader?

No, Charles, that makes you level-headed.......fair and balanced, if you will. ALL THINGS IN BALANCE.

Well, I spoke too soon, I see now that you've joined Ken in hijacking my herd!!
