WARNING THIS IS A LONG POST.
I did not miss the immigration bill- McCain did do work on it... but on the flip flop, if you check it out- he changed his mind and said even though he helped create it, he would not vote for it to pass.. guess because Bush said he would veto it anyways!
Ah… right… he put his name to it, not just worked on it. You’re forgetting a lot of other stuff about the bill and yes there was a back lash over the bill which was being pushed hard not only from the dems but also the president. The writing was on the wall, the people were not happy with this mess of a bill and you are wrong about the president, he would have signed it into laws very quickly. Why he pulled his support does not matter and should not.
OH why was the democratic senators saying that the people's objections were not part of our rights?
Your Military man McCain, the great war hero.. where was he when it came to vote on the GI bill? Oh they can send um to war- but don't give a !#$! about them if they make it home. Obama and Clinton showed up to vote, you know why McCain didn't show up> Oh Bush said he would veto that if it passed too!
G.I. Bill to give military people help with education when they return home... well hell
Well have you read the bill and read what he wanted to have in his version of the bill. He wanted to make some of the benefits transferable to family members like the kids or spouses and to increase some of the benefits. Amazing that this was is such an issue for the uninformed and ignorant. Why Clinton and Obama showed up, well they were in Washington for meetings, not to cast a vote and by the way speaking of votes out of all three, Obama is the one with the least amount of floor time.
we can't even give them proper medical care, hospitals that are run down, broke down, buildings that are in need of funding- that is not a shame- it is a sin.( Good thing Denzel Washington stepped up and personally wrote a check to fund repairs to military hospital- I believe a million?)
Oh yea, Clinton and even the dems cut back on funding for the military, remember I watch my senator closely – Levin and he has a lot to say about military medical care as a senator.
AND I know this for a fact because of the name mentioned, Mr. Washington, who is a good actor and like Will Smith, seems to be concern for all different people and did not pull a spike lee on the country but rather gave without a second thought.
You know what he actually did?
It
did not give a million dollars for repairs to a military hospital, that can’t happen but amazingly he gave money to the
Fisher House -- Helping Military Families a place that offers low rent or free housing to soldiers and their families to build another housing facility. It is said that he paid $1.5 million to cover the expenses for the building and contents. Can you send them a few bucks their way too? I have and one of the wounded vets I am friend with, who I am going to see tonight spent time down there recovering and she would appreciate the donation too.
I have many problems with Bush- and maybe you don't? Maybe you are one of the 26 0/0 that says he is great and you approve of the job he is doing...
If you are- then McCain is YOUR man. I feel different than you do, I think we can do better! I think we are strong, not weak, and failing like the world views us right now.
I too have a lot of problems with Bush, I can list them on five or six pages but you know I can’t do much about him – my power is with my representative and senator. Being a serious student of history and politics, Obama has all the rhetoric of a Marxist, a little short of Lenin, Trosky and especially Stalin and I don’t see how he will control his handlers if he becomes president.
The other thing I get tired of is hearing about the concern over how the world views us, the United States. Sorry but this point of argument is rather dumb and uninformed because of two simple facts;
The world needs us, and there is a real imbalance to the point it is for our advantage.
The world depends on us, which differs from the above statement.
When I stated "The world sees us as weak and failing" I say that to include american families.
Oh really? Why is one of the goals for many people of the world is to come here and live free to raise a family?
If you are fortunate enough to have medical coverage these days- then maybe you don't care about universal health coverage? But the truth is, the average family can't afford it- and lord help them if they have pre-existing health problems- they can't even get coverage! Thats wrong.
That’s not true. Look around to the majority of the people and you may find that they can afford health insurance if they give up the SUV, the Xbox and other things that are additions to life, not needs.
They are one medical emergency away from financial ruin. And what about americans who have lost there jobs? They lost* health care too!
Sorry not to be disrespectful but BS, you never experienced it at all if you say this.
I lost my job, lost my health care, was not only one emergency away from living in a box but actually had one emergency and still survived. There is no special trick to it, there is no special program I could join, I know how to survive and as I get older, I feel less and less concern with someone who won’t take command of their lives to find solutions but instead depend on people who will take from me to give to them.
And some have lost homes, do you think they can afford to COBRA there health benefits untill they get new coverage? I doubt it.
Actually my wife paid out for her COBRA coverage when she had insurance and amazingly I did get coverage with a preexisting condition, not a problem but I pay for it. I still pay for all my prescriptions out of pocket and still have to deal with stupid doctors and repeating things over and over but I have coverage.
We can do better !So if you have health care- you don't care about those who can't get it? I guess I am a liberal, I prefer humanitarian.
No, you are putting this in terms of blame, not facts. IN FACT if you help people make a living by allowing them to keep the money the make, it helps them to get health care and food and even housing but if you tax them to ‘share’ the money they make, it is less than what they need to live on in the long run.
I am a classic liberal
Classical liberalism - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia , meaning that I lean toward libertarian and conservatism with the belief that it is you and I who make the difference not the government. By adding the government into the mix, it prevent me from helping my neighbor or getting help when I need it because now I have to deal with someone who has no clue what it is I need.
If you want to understand what I am saying, read a “road to serfdom” by Hayek, there is a readers digest version out on the web which is a good way to learn.
As for humanitarian, well that is a term which can mean a few things, one is that you will, not think of or not maybe but WILL help others out when they are in need. You can consider a classic liberal one who takes the humanitarianism approach to things for their fellow man by maintaining the government that is small and not intrusive but again, when I was over in Africa, I only met one liberal among a sea of conservatives and classic liberals
Ask a family who sits down every payday to try and figure out what to pay- do they feel like america is not failing? They are treading water, and tired! And thats just the tip of the iceberg... I have heard on this site, under Obama we will pay more taxes.... I don't know about you but most people I know who I consider middle class- are couples who both work for a combined income of 40,000 to maybe 60,000 on the high end. They are taxed to death, especially one couple who don't own a home- but are renting to save for a home they can buy! They can take NO deductions! Thats wrong... we can do better!
Yes it is wrong but under Bush the tax system was simplified, beware… there are facts approaching.
In the 1991-1992 years, we had 3 brackets – the lowest being 15%,the highest being31%
In 1993-2000 we had 5 brackets – the lowest being 15%, the highest 39.6%
In 2001 we had 5 brackets – the lowest being 15%, the highest 39.1%
In 2002 we had 6 brackets – the lowest being 10%, the highest 38.6%
In 2003-to date we have 6 brackets – the lowest being 10% and the highest being 35%
WHICH one do you think helps people out the most?
I don’t think that the 93 to 2000 did?
Maybe by lowering the taxes and also lowering cap gains, people have more money in the long run but that’s not all.
Your point is that taxes are a problem, well that is very very true but have you read anything about the Fair Tax? It takes the income tax out of the picture and replaces it with a 23% sales tax on new items, no deductions no tax on income and no tax on business stuff, go read about it with an open mind and than after you are all done reading about it ask yourself this;
Would I be better off if I didn’t have to pay an income tax that is taken out of my paycheck?
Show me where those middle class, that represent the average middle class in America will be hurt under Obamas tax plan. Corporations have enjoyed tax cuts for a decade now- has it helped the average worker? NO NO NO.
Actually you don’t know what you are talking about, corporations pay ZERO taxes, we do and it shows that you need to understand the cause and effect of taxes on all of us.
They didn't pass that on to the average joe moe employee... they raised the contribution to health care every year, or even hired part* timers at 32 hours, or hired temps- so they didn't have to pay for coverage at all! We can do better!Hell yes I will vote for Change! It is do, or die for the American Family... do you really think we can even fund a war at the rate we are going? We can do better!
Well actually read my little factoid about tax rates above, Bush has helped all of us. But again if you don’t feel he has, I will tell you what one IRS agent told me – if you want to pay more taxes, we have an address where you can send us a check.
Moot- Whats not the truth? That americans can't afford health insurance? That american families are finding it hard to make it? That Denzel privatley funded military hospital? That Obama isn't raising taxes on the middle class? That we wont be able to fund a war with our economy in the shape it's in for much longer?
Obama wants to raise taxes on everyone, read. The economy will suffer and the people who live marginally will too.
Warren Buffett 3rd richest man in the WORLD said it best, his secretary makes 60,000 a year and is taxed at 30 per cent. He made 46 million and taxed at 17.7 per cent? This baffled him enough to address an audience of his peers... "If your the luckiest 1 per cent in this country to earn millions, you owe it to the rest of humanity to think about the other 99 per cent." I admire a man who knows its not all about getting and keeping all the money for yourself!
Here is a little secret, Buffet does not get an income like we do, he gets returns on his investments and his secretaries don’t make 60k a year, they make more like close to seven digits left of the decimal point. He wasn’t baffled as much as he has not given a dime away to help people but gave it to organizations who have had a habit of wasting it.
Bill gates has been rumored to be on McCains short list for VP... but thats a no go.. he has already given contributions to the democratic party, and none to McCain.
Your quick to say he's going to raise taxes!!!!!!! But don'rt worry... unless your a CEO, or maybe a heiress to a beer company!!!!
Yea and there is a rumor that Obama will sell off Hawaii to the Iranians too.
Yes he will raise taxes, what part of the dems consistent complaining that the Bush tax cuts are only for the rich did you miss?
