Unexpected Plans
The plan was to stay out on the road until our next scheduled home time. Rarely do we ever get a load that takes us anywhere near home. Last week was an unexpected surprise. We had a delivery that got us very close to home. We delivered on Monday and went straight home. We had another load lined up to pick up on Thursday. So what could we do to use our time at home in a practical and efficient way? What do you do with a short timeline at home? Here is what we did…
Dave usually has projects to do with the semi. Last week was no exception. He went shopping for some supplies. He completed a task that he had been wanting to finish for a while. We decided that one of our personal vehicles needed a checkup so Dave scheduled an appointment for our next time at home. Dave also made an unexpected trip to the eye doctor. His eye had been irritating him. It made sense to get the eye checked before we headed out again. He did his laundry and finally did some grilling to take on the truck.
I had my own chores as well. Last week was the beginning of a new month so my priority was to scan all receipts from the previous month, download all bank statements, logs and any other documents needed to close out the month. From there I completed all data entry necessary to generate a profit and loss statement to determine how we did for the month. I also did my laundry and went grocery shopping to add a few things to the truck. In addition, I was able to secure another load to fill out the next week.
Together we were able to visit our next door neighbor who invites friends and family over every Tuesday for drinks and conversation. We enjoy when we are home and can take some time to relax and enjoy time with friends and family. We learn about things that are happening in our town and our community.
Running a business is not for the faint of heart. Our time is split between our personal life and our business life. In many cases, there does not seem to be enough hours in the day. We need to maintain our business equipment as well as our house and personal vehicles. We need to keep track of both personal and business bills and finances. The best way we have found to do it all is to divide and conquer. We split tasks both personally and professionally to lighten the burden for both of us. Do you have other ways to juggle both personal life and professional life? Would you be wiling to share your methods? New business owners could use any tips on how to balance work life and personal life.
Here’s to millions of safe, profitable and UNEXPECTED miles.
