On The Road Again
On The Road Again
We are finally going back to word this week. After being off for nearly seven weeks it feels like we need to relearn how to be truck drivers again. In all seriousness, it was very nice to be able to take some time off but we are looking forward to getting back to work.
We had an unexpected mechanical failure which delayed our return and forced us to have our truck towed right from our driveway. In all the years we have been driving, that was a first. The truck was in the shop for about a week. We picked the truck up only to find out that the original issue did not seem to be addressed at all. We were able to drive the truck home. We let it sit over the weekend. When Dave went to start the truck the next Monday he found the same issue still existed. He called the shop, informed them of the problem and told them that we would not be paying for another tow bill. The repair shop agreed to cover the cost. The truck was towed for a second time in as many weeks directly from our driveway. This time we did not see our truck until Saturday. Between one tow bill and two different repair bills we spent nearly $13,000! We certainly did not plan on starting the new year like this. Hopefully, we will not need to see another tow truck or the inside of a shop for a very long time.
Also, while we were home our dogs decided to help themselves to some homemade muffins that we had made with xylitol in them. Xylitol is a sugar substitute that is very deadly to dogs. Normally we are very careful about where food items are stored. In this case, the muffins were still cooling off when one or both of our fur babies thought it would be a good idea to try some muffins. After a call to our local vet we followed the instructions we were given and made an appointment for both dogs for the next day. They both checked out fine. That was a relief. However, a week later our lab/retriever Rocky seemed to have a seizure. We called the vet again and made an appointment for that same day. After some extra lab work we found out that everything checked out fine. We have no idea what might have caused the seizure. We continue to watch him closely. For the past week he has been doing good.
With all the unexpected appointments it will feel good to get back out on the road. Our rescue Barkley still has no idea what is coming ahead. He has never picked up or delivered a load yet. It should be fun to see how he handles the open road. We hope that Rocky will help show Barkley the ropes.
Here’s to millions of safe, profitable and UNEVENTFUL miles.
