STOCKHOLM – WikiLeaks' American domain name system provider, EveryDNS, has withdrawn service to the wikileaks.org name after the secret-spilling website once again became the target of hacker attacks.

EveryDNS said in a statement that it dropped the website late Thursday because the attacks threatened the rest of its network.

"Wikileaks.org has become the target of multiple distributed denial of service attacks. These attacks have, and future attacks would, threaten the stability of the EveryDNS.net infrastructure," it said in a statement. EveryDNS provides access to some 500,000 websites.

WikiLeaks confirmed the drop on its Twitter account, saying "WikiLeaks.org domain killed by US everydns.net after claimed mass attacks."

WikiLeaks has angered the U.S. and other governments by publishing almost half a million secret documents about the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. The latest batch contains thousands of classified U.S. diplomatic cables.

On Wednesday, Amazon.com Inc. — who had provided WikiLeaks with use of its servers to distribute embarrassing State Department communications and other documents — evicted it. The site remains on servers of a Swedish host, Bahnhof.

The ouster from Amazon came after congressional staff questioned the company about its relationship with WikiLeaks. Sen. Joe Lieberman praised Amazon's action and said it should "set the standard" for companies WikiLeaks is using to distribute "illegally seized material"

ICANN is the group that oversees every name on the Internet. They have in the past pulled domain names from people and can very easily in this case because of the agreements with the different governments.

NO one owns a domain name, they sort of rent them, even EO and because that fact, this issue can easily be resolved by taking "wikileaks" and transferring it to the control of the US government - which will p*ss off Rlent.

LOL .... well, I certainly wouldn't be happy about it, that's for sure - but in all honesty, I'd probably just laugh ....

Why, you ask ?

There's a funny thing that happens when authorities tend to try to suppress the free flow of information - particularly when that information involves criminal wrongdoing on the part of those in power, which affects the lives of broad segments of the population - it has a way of inspiring and motivating others.

The USG may eventually be successful in prosecuting and/or taking Julian Assange out .... but it won't matter.

The information is already out there - on thousands of servers - and is probably proliferating even further as we speak - it will be coming out.

Anyone for a little "Whacka-Mole" ?

And even if the USG is successful with eliminating or silencing Assange, they will have only succeeded in giving themselves another self-delivered footbullet ...

Because that event, will likely spawn a 1000 Assanges .....

Why do you think that the USG hasn't acted against him already - they know where he is ....

No, this situation has to be managed very, very carefully .... lest the law of unintended consequences take over ....

Welcome to the New World .... one of Truth and Enlightenment ....

Well I would think that there isn't an attempt to suppress any information :) the problem is that the name registration system is not about ownership or censorship but rather... money.

If that idiot would want to play big boy games, then he would be willing to pay. The one thing that has been happening, and Amazon made light of it today, is the fact that their EUA states that the site can't republish things they do not own without permission.

As far as criminal act, sorry dude can't agree with anything beyond what is happening right now in our own country. Every nation on earth has blood on their hands and much of it is beyond what we the people can do about it. Because I don't really give a crap about what happens somewhere else or the fact that either the release of any document or any action on my part will never change a thing, I would rather keep things secret then aiding an enemy who is much smarter than either our congress and president or the American public.

The USAG can do what he wants, but I think his inept actions so far limit his ability to do much even though the law is on his side on one issue. If this government would be smart, they would simply solve the problem as they did many times before and let it fade into history.

The interesting thing is, if Assange trips and hits his head, gets run over by a bus, has a heart attack or gets struck by lightening, the US government will be blamed by everyone. So whether we do anything or not, if something happens to him, we did it. So we might as well go ahead and take him out and save a lot of time and aggravation. At least that will make some of those other Assanges think twice.

Sometimes I crack myself up. :D

LOL ..... actually, it is very likely to have exactly the opposite effect .....

What causes a man to begin to fight for his freedom ?

..... becoming aware that someone is attempting to steal it from him ...
