OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Oklahoma voters have approved a measure that would forbid judges from considering international law or Islamic law when deciding cases.

Republican Rex Duncan, the sponsor of the measure, called it a "pre-emptive strike" designed to close the door on activist judges "legislating from the bench or using international law or Sharia law."

Members of the Muslim community called the question an attack on Islam and some of them said they are prepared to file a lawsuit challenging the measure.

And they're right. And it'll probably be successfully challenged in court. It was prompted by the fear if Sharia law becoming the law of the land within 3 years, but also because of the World Court and the United Nations. But the problem is in the wording, as they specifically mention a specific religion, rather than something generic like "international law or religious law or doctrine."

Every state in the union should pass a law forbidding any foreign law from being considered here. Oklahoma may have worded it poorly but they did the right thing and it should be made to stand.

BUT Turtle is right, if it didn't include any reference to any specific religion, it may not be a big deal.

Nah ...... religion itself ain't inherently bad ..... the problem happens when idiots get ahold of it, and comes from what they do with it .....

Therefore, what we should outlaw is idiocy .....

Would probably depopulate the US by at least 50% ...

I was reading an interesting technical article on money exchanges and so on. All of a sudden the author started to throw in Bible quotes to justify some of the science, which has nothing to do with the subject. That article just vanish off my screen and I went on.

How can we outlaw idiocy when socialism REWARDS it? Helps it along? When our education "system" is striving hard to achieve the same high level of "applied mediocraty" that the Soviet Union enjoyed for decades?

I'm curious Layout, I grew up with people who were educated in the Soviet system which is socialistic system.

I had been explained their system of government and what every day life was like. It wasn't were there were dumb people work, like there is here in some **unnamed** industry.

Every one of those who sat in my classes were average Soviet citizens and amazing excelled in our school system to the point that they all graduated with honors - every one of them.

I understood from all of them that even the lowest of the worker had opertunities to go to school, so I'm left with this idea that if this was so true and we are turning into a socialist country, why can't an average good student go to a public college?

I go by what I saw in the Soviet military AND talking with Soviet defectors. They told me that only the select ones were allowed to go on to certain levels of education. That many were "chosen" by the State at very young ages to either go on to higher levels or not. There was little room for "late bloomers" like we often see here. Independent thought was highly discouraged, even more so in the military. Unlike our military that encouraged independent thought. They wanted "worker bee's". Keep in mind those you met were the ones who wanted OUT. The ones with gumption. Same with the ones I met. They were NOT the norm.

The military aside, I understand that the state selected some of the population to excel above most but here we don't even try to identify those potential assets and rather make it discouraging for most who want to go to college to go or play the race card.

AND I wasn't even talking about the level of education. With their former literacy rate, they must have done something right ... sort of ... if they were better than ours.

Our great leader, the messiah, has instituted some of the greatest reforms on earth that the human race has ever seen. The one that sticks in my mind is the race to the top, where our own tax money is a prize for those schools who win a contest, pretty disgusting when you think about it.

I think you need to start thinking that the term socialist and socialism is not even close to being the truth. Maybe Elitist and elitism is a better fit for what we are facing.

Elitist, socialist, what ever. I think you understand what I am talking about. Literacy rate? Most in this country who can't read can't by CHOICE!! Freedom allows for stupidity, failure IS an option. Problem is we now SUBSIDIZE it!! We also have far too much "self esteem" and not enough requirements.
