Because our carrier has been keeping us quite busy since the beginning of the year, we've not paid attention to the world news in the past few days. No time to watch the tube! But the events of today's loads have given us good cause to fire up the satilite and watch the news!
We sit here at JFK scheduled to pick up two jet engines today from two different customers. But they are not here. They were supposed to have flown in last night from overseas. But naw, they have not left their points of origin. Why? Volcanic dust and what not in the air! And lots of it. Don't know yet when they'll fly. Aint safe to fly until the dust and stuff clears. Volcanic ash can be very dreadful for a perfectly good aircraft in many ways!
So, no engines to haul, no revenue today for hauling them. Dry run pay? Could this be one claim that falls under the "act of God clause" that makes a shipper exempt? Time will tell. We hear one engine might be in on Sunday. Might!
So in seeing how expedited aviation freight has been affected, what about your area of expedited freight? Are you feeling a bit dusty the past two days? Has the eruption of the volcano in Iceland affected your bottom line yet?
