I wonder why this was started in the FedEx forum, it is a general topic. Maybe FedEx should have a specific answer?

Sorry Gregg, my bad, It stemmed from a discussion I had with another FDCC O/O as we were sharing our experiences with some dispatchers that seemed to have no knowledge of what our limitations are even though they have all the data on a computer screen just 2 clicks away...probably 1 click with the new system...would think the "system" would have that already programed in.

Two years ago I posted a link to a free New York City truck route map and information about truck route signage, weight limits and dimensions, overweight/overdimensional permitting and truck related violations. The map has been updated and the information remains valid today. See this post.

This Mod requested that the link be posted to the general forum. The original poster did just that (thank you).
I have asked the question of our safety dept, and are awaiting an answer.

Greg: that the Mods can't be everywhere all the time is why I posted the question - in the FedEx forum, I couldn't ask.

Phil: I ordered copies of the NYC maps from that link when you posted it, [and appreciate it], but I checked, and my maps haven't updated themselves. :rolleyes:

The reply I received from Safety says:

It applies to over dimensional freight and non-divisible freight, not to us.

The map that Phil refers to, also says 35 ft truck length.
The atlas says 40ft
Still confused

I dont think you all have anything to worry about, I think they are talking about the 8' wide being the width of the body.If that wasn't the case, look at how many hundreds of straight trucks would be in violation in NYC that run local to begin with.And just think how narrow a cargo box would have to be to allow for the mirrors being at 8' wide total to make them effective in seeing what is around, behind you also.Personally, I dont do nyc anymore, did it dedicated for a 3 year stretch and had enough of it. It just isnt worth it, just the roads and bridges tearing a truck up is enough to stay out of there.

True, exempt items in the width (but with limitations) include mirrors, aerodynamic enhancements (non structual) etc. However the NYC chart as provided by NYC plainly shows length @ 35' and width @ 8', see below. As to the Atlas stating 40', (in another post) since it is not an official government document, I would follow the NYC doc instead.

Please tell me what bridge in MD you are referring to.
