Fast Food Strike: Workers Walk Out In US Cities

Fast food is not supposed to be a job to raise a family on. It is for an extra job, kids in high school and that type of thing.

Sent from my Fisher Price ABC-123.

Yep...at least that was the idea in the 70s...how times have changed heh!

I think ALL of the companies targeted should shut down for just 2 days...Sunday and Monday...then see what happens to these idiot strikers from their peers...peer to peer works best in most situations to get people back on track...

Walmart got thru it...these corporations will too...it is one thing to want something, its quite another to actually get it....these organizers running around putting pie in the sky ideas in these workers heads...

They are, for the most part, individual franchises. These duds are not striking McDonald's or Burger King. Walmart is a much different animal and it is not comparable.

These "organizers" are nothing but Obama shills, running around, causing trouble, continuing the class warfare BS. All for just a couple of reasons. To increase Social Security tax payments and to eliminate small business. It is all about socialism.

Nothing has changed. It was very bad in the '70's. I got out of the army in '73. Could not find a REAL job so I worked several at one time to make it. When that stopped working out, I moved to find work. My grandparents moved from Europe to find work. My Dad moved from PA to MI after WWII for the same reason.

There is work in many areas. It MAY take upgrading skills and likely moving. That is what responsible adults have been doing since the beginning of time. It is time people just grow up, accept responsibility for their OWN lives, and do what needs done to make it. They are not OWED a living. They have the EXACT same chances every other person has. If some can do it, so can the rest. The best "welfare" system is to not have one. Making an able bodied/minded person stand on their own two feet is the greatest gift one can give another.

But..but...that's too hard, that takes...effort. Got to go, my Obama phone is ringing

What are the individual franchise owners making? They are the ones who the cry babies are striking against. McDonald's does not pay their wages. There is no context there.

So what? That has nothing to do with what individual franchise owners are paying their employees or how well those franchises are doing. Those who work at those placed don't work for McDonald's or Burger King. They are employed by the franchise owner. Those franchises are operating a razor thin margins.

Instead of striking to get that wage they SHOULD be working to improve their skills to get a better job. Why are they so unwilling to accept responsibility for their OWN lives?

I guess the franchise owners would have to take that up with Mc Donalds. I dont necessarily agree with them, but I dont think we as tax payers should be carrying their health costs. On the other hand I dont want the country to become like mexico where people sometimes beyond their control end up begging for a living. In fact mexico is a perfect example. Democratic and free markets and people are starving

Take up what with McDonald's?

You are right, no one should be paying for their health care, except themselves.

Our government is the primary cause for the lack of jobs. There are, however, plenty of jobs out there. One just has to have the skills and go where they are.

They are STILL having problems finding drivers in PA for the gas fields. Pays FAR better than 15 per hour, and yet, there are STILL tons of people working at minimum wage, by choice.

You get out of life only what you are willing to put into it. Strive for a low skill, low paying job, and that is all you will get. Success takes effort.

You missed the entire point of my comment which was in answer to another comment...lol

What i was trying to say was in the 70/80's, the idea behind the fast food jobs were to engage highschool/college/trade school students into the workforce. They would learn people skills, value of a dollar, basics of how our employment systems work, interview skills, etc. and be able to fund there own ventures like the movies, roller skating, mall shopping/hangout, etc. THEN, when out of the trade school or college, use their learned skills and education to get into a career job(of course there were those types of jobs to progress into then).

Now let us fast forward to today...we have a government that says stay home till 26, we will help you do nothing, we will stall the economy so you cant get hired and we will take care of you so no worries...we will help you rise up against corporate american even though without them we may go broke! Government is your friend, we understand you better than your parents and you are Owed nothing but high paying jobs and don't settle for less...rise up youth...this is your time! Then they put in policies to hinder the middle class and what are we left with...a $10 burger...lol

What happened to the work up the ladder and learn along the way mentality? Here's an idea...get the parents involved! Get the Government out issues they should not be involved in. Get the Unions un-involved! Working anywhere is a choice...you don't like it...get another job...it's that simple!

That was my point...lol

That goes along with not keeping score at a child's baseball game so there are no losers and kids won't get their feelings hurt...WITHOUT knowing/learning what the feeling of losing is and dealing with it.....and that I hold parents directly responsible for letting happen....

One thing that happened in our modern economy is we really work for a credit called the dollar. The value of which is continually decreasing while the cost of goods is increasing. All the while through technology less people are required to manufacture goods. The people that do manufacture goods require much less skill. Globalization also has to be taken into account. You cant compare todays economy to the economy of the 1970s.

Let's see, we had an oil embargo in the '70's. We had a war ending, lots of people coming home to find lots of others in the jobs. We had entire industries going through major changes. MASSIVE inflation. Double digit interest rates.

I saw lines two blocks long for a job a at McDonald's. I saw fights over who would be the one going in to apply for a job.

I DID know, even then, that one either had to take advantage of skills that they already had OR one had to improve one's skills to be more marketable. I knew that if I could not find work in the Detroit area, (see, little has changed) that I would have to move to find work. I had skills and moved to England to use them. Just up and moved.

This is NOTHING new. There have been paradigm shifts throughout the history of mankind. There is always upheaval. Most people are able to adapt. Some better than others. There is one constant, those who do adapt do it with hard work, not excuses. Enabling them with thinks like artificially high "minimum wages, retards their drive. A kick in the butt is of far more value.

(Dang gum! That was good! I should publish this stuff! LOL!!)

Give them a raise to maybe $10.00 or $10.50 just to give them enough income that they no longer qualify for any government benefits. They need to be careful what they ask for, it could come back and hurt their income.

Won't work, they will change the numbers so they can get both. They cannot tick off their biggest voting block.
