Becareful Doug. You are not following the new protocol for the soapbox. If you post a link or a comment from another site you also have to paraphrase what you saw and/or heard and give your opinion about it.

Have you ever spoken with Cheany? I have. I found him smart, insightful, very serious abiut his work and very mindfull of the gravity of his role. I would have liked to have worked more closely with the man. He assumed that I knew my job, which I did, or I would not be in the position I was in. I gave him the information and he acted on it. I was right and his reaction was correct. What kind of experience like that do you have? Layoutshooter

No cause ,I would be in jail. I woulda spit in his two faces. Why wouldn't he stop W. watch the video he knew we could not win over there, without huge numbers of American lives lost. Yet he didn't talk any sense to that idiot.

Doug,
I understand that every life is important but do you really understand that what has been done with so little lose of life is utterly amazing and to think that in one day, one accident 700 men lost their lives and that was during training.

During WW1, death was common, more so than people ever imagine. Think that in that war, just for the British alone there were 167,000 deaths from wounds which in our time may have been reduced to under 10,000 deaths because of the advances we made during the Iraq war. Just imagine that our soldiers getting really quick medical treatment in the field when just 40 years ago, a soldier with the same wound would have been bagged for his return home.

A lot of things different would've happened if we had gone to Bagdad the first time...

1) We already had the Iraqi Army on the run. It would've been a lot easier to finish it off.

2) We already had bunkers busted and tactical targets destroyed.

3) The Shia in the south wouldn't have been betrayed. They would've been allies.

4) The Kurds in the north wouldn't have been gassed. They would've been allies.

5) The surrounding countries involved in Gulf 1 wouldn't been more involved. If they weren't, they wouldn't have had a say in the resulting government.

6) Bush I would've possibly been re-elected. Clinton would be an afterthought. Our intellegence would've been a higher priority, and 911 likely wouldn't have happened. Bush I would not have turned down bin Laden from Sudan. But likely, he wouldn't have made it that far after the first WTC bombing, as we would've gone after his butt!

Greg, I think that Doug, as many Americans, is overwhellemed by this. They have no understanding so instesd of trying to learn they lash out. It is much easier to deal with things if you don't have to learn or understand what is really going on. Kinda like a ostriage. It is much easier to bury your head in the sand and let someone else do your learning for you. Then, since you only have a one sided news media, well, it is easy to understand the reaction. Too bad, it is important to really know. Layoutshooter

Basic and simple. We did the wrong thing the first time and the right thing the second time. Those who know what's going on and what leads to longest term stability and safety for our nation know this had to happen. Those who know more than the UN know this had to happen. The rest are Obamaphiles.

I wonder what could have happened between 1994 and the date we decided to deal with Iraq? Did the United Stated Congress vote in favor of military action against them? Did every major presidential candidate in addition to Slick Willie state that they believed Saddam had WMDs and agree with the action? Some people seem to think that the US went into this war alone, and this was not the case. The main thing about Cheney that turns most people off is that he has a no-nonsense attitude and doesn't suffer fools easily like most politicians. Here's a news flash - we haven't lost this war. We've won it! Mop-up operations are in progress and we are turning it over to the new Iraqi regime and their military. Granted, American lives were lost and one life is one too many. But to talk like the Iraq war was similar to Viet Nam is sheer foolishness. The wisdom of having Saddam gone and having Iraq as an ally in that part of the country will become evident the moment that Iran gets actively belligerant - and I, for one, am afraid that day will soon be upon us and our fearless leader - Barack Hussein Obama.

Again Doug, read some history, 4200 over all these years are NOT huge losses. While I hate the loss of everyone I understand the need. Again, on D-Day ALONE more that 6000 died. Too bad, it kinda sounds like you slept through history. Layoutshooter

For the last time WE HAD NO BUSINESS GOING THERE, they were not a threat to us!

Doug,
In truth, we should have never been fighting Germany either - they didn't attack us.

The same goes with Korea, that was caused by the UN... who actually is at fault for Iraq when you look at the big picture.

With 5 college deferments, it would seem to me he is one of those academics you say you can't stand....

Some people are good at things where others are not. He is a natrual leader, knowning how to get the best out of his people is one of his greatest skills. Un-like Clinton, Cheney did not look down on those who worked under him. When the phone wrang that day and I heard who it was I was a bit nervous and I am sure that came through as we spoke. I was new on that particular job, in reality, it was my first night on that job without a trainer and, as my luck, "Stuff" really hit the fan. He put me at ease instantly, called me "sir" or used Mr. Marra. I told him I was new but had a handle on the situation. I gave him the briefing he needed. It was correct, well thought out and to the point. He complimented me on it and stated that those who put me in that position really knew what they were doing. That it was clear that I had the backround, training and level head to handle the job. The cash award helped too.

It is not the schooling or lack of it. Or not even always the total experience but how you handle yourself and treat others. The ability to learn from those under you is very difficult and seldom is taught. It is noramlly instinctive. I would work for him any day. Slick Willy, no way, and NEVER under Obama. He is worse than Willy. Layoutshooter

After I got home the next morning, I ran into the house, turned on the TV, and watched the networks get just about every detail wrong and lie through thier teeth about the causes, how we reacted and how wrong we were. The lying sacks of turkey dung that they are. Then I drank 2 six packs and went to sleep. Had a zillion night mares and was very happy that Mrs. Layoutshooter was not in bed. Normally when I had "Those" kinds of nightmares I would wake up punching her. Sure glad those days are over. Now, I am off to bed, I load early in the morning. Layoutshooter
