I would go a transmission shop and see what they saying. That is the best thing that you can do at this time.

Johnf, if your CHECK ENGINE light came on that would indicate a problem related to the emission control system. It could be something as simple as an oxygen sensor or a loose gas cap. If the On-Board Diagnostic system threw a fault code, what was it? A poor performing engine could cause rough shifting but that doesn't mean it is time for transmission work. Find a mechanic you can trust and have it checked out. I'd stay away from dealerships and transmission specialists until the problem was correctly diagnosed.

For all you cargo van owners I recommend purchasing a ScanGauge. ScanGaugeII - Trip Computers + Digital Gauges + Scan Tool

The ScanGauge is a code reader, m.p.g. information center and can display 4 of several different gauge functions at once. I have the large old style ScanGauge velcroed to my dash. It can easily be removed for connecting to another vehicle to access fault codes and reset the CHECK ENGINE light. Use it twice for reading codes and it will have paid for itself.

Hard to say. Until you don't know what is the problem we just guess here. What AAMCO said?

Related to a direct problem with the transmission?

When the engine light came on i went to Auto zone and they scanned the engine and the message was transmission they said maybe oil i checked the oil and it was a little low so i put a little bit in.They reset the engine light and went on my way drove about 200 miles no problem then picked up a load 700 pounds 5 minutes later the light came on again.

I wouldn't go to a transmission shop unless I knew my van had a transmission problem. I'm not saying they're trying to rip you off, but they are in the transmission business and that leaky radiator line could be fixed with a complete tranny rebuild.

Did you re-check the transmission fluid level at that point ?

Next time don't take their word on what to do, get an error code from them and then check it out yourself.

Check engine lite came on when my trans wouldn't shift...had it checked and a fuse was blown that controls the trans shift points...i caused it when i was 'messing" around with the spade terminal i installed for the roof fan/vent...

On my daughters PT Cruiser, the check engine lite came on when the PS pump leaked and the fluid level was low.....

Good deal! Sure beats buying a new transmission. I'm curious as to what engine you have and how many miles on it. When I have my transmission serviced, rather than the flush my mechanic drops the pan and replaces the filter and refills with new fluid.

I never heard to be a problem solved with a flush. Trust me, if you had a problem you still have it now. Will come on in the future....

If you go to a transmission specialist and say you think there is something wrong with your transmission, you are going to get a new transmission. Even if the problem was a bad U-joint, you will get a new transmission and the U-joint will get replaced for free.

In some places you may be right and in some not. I had some trany issues before and I learn the thing with the flush. After you talk to some people involved in this business and they all say same thing about the flush....But yes you are right about the thing that they will try to put a new transmission even if you not have a major problem, but on the other hand you can't fix a trany with a flush. My point is that he will get in their hands sooner or later. I just had a $3000 transmission job on my 2006 GMC.
