I might give them my age, why they need to know that I have no idea. Other than that and the numbers living in the house all they are going to be able to read is "Nunja". Let come after me.

My wife got ours yesterday, called me last night and after she was done, the only question she answered was the one about the number of people living in the house.

As far as being in trouble, at the bottom of the last page, there was something about saving tax payer money by filling it out because if you didn't they would have to send someone out to your home to complete it....LOL... I have a plan for that also..take a look here and make sure you read question number 5 on the questionaire...if the person answers that question yes, then the interview is over.....so if they won't answer the questionaire, i won't answer their questions. I am not refusing to answer , just protecting myself until they provide the answers i want. if they do and they answer #5 yes, we are done.....:D The Constitution lets the government "count" the people, no other infi is required....

I wouldn't worry about it...I have yet to ever return a census form.....EVER. I've never heard of somebody being incarcerated for non-census compliance...

Not that it really matters much anymore. If they are going to count illegal aliens the count will be a joke anyway. Who knows just how many they will "pad" the counts with?

Oh i am not "worried" about it at all, it is more just to mess with whoever comes to the door, if they even do...

the forms came from a female diary farmer i know. she uses them on the AG dept people, they have work well for her....

but the bigger issue here is that barry has taken over the census, so all bets are off as to want "was" done in the past.....i do agree that chances are no one is going to jail or anything of that nature...but i am looking forward to messing with them......:D i might have too much time on my hands.....hmmmm...lol :D

Rush Limbaugh said there are so many races listed, some he has never heard of. He said you should check the other box and then write in AMERICAN in capital letters.

"What happens if I don't fill out my census form?." 01 April 2000. HowStuffWorks.com. <http://people.howstuffworks.com/question345.htm> 17 March 2010.People Videos

In the United States, the census is officially a big deal (see How the Census Works to learn exactly how big a deal it is). Originally, the census was meant to be a way to count everyone so that the members of the House of Representatives could be allocated properly to the states. Every 10 years there would be a count, and states with more people got more members in the House. Over time, the government has gotten significantly more complicated, and today, the federal government allocates money to states for all sorts of programs. Something like $100 billion gets distributed every year, and quite a bit of it is distributed based on population. The census provides the only official head count.

Someone is very likely to notice if you do not fill out and return your form. After April 1 in a census year, all of the responses received by the U.S. Census Bureau will be compared to major lists of U.S. residences. If your response has not been received -- or if you didn't complete all the questions on your form -- someone from the census will contact you for that information. The census is a $6.5 billion dollar project. They can afford to be thorough!

If you refuse to give out the information or you deliberately give inaccurate information, you can be in legal trouble. According to United States Code, Title 13 (Census), Chapter 7 (Offenses and Penalties), SubChapter II, if you're over 18 and refuse to answer all or part of the Census, you can be fined up to $100. If you give false answers, you're subject to a fine of up to $500. If you offer suggestions or information with the "intent to cause inaccurate enumeration of population," you are subject to a fine of up to $1,000, up to a year in prison, or both. Here's the official verbiage:
221. Refusal or neglect to answer questions; false answers

•(a) Whoever, being over eighteen years of age, refuses or willfully neglects, when requested by the Secretary, or by any other authorized officer or employee of the Department of Commerce or bureau or agency thereof acting under the instructions of the Secretary or authorized officer, to answer, to the best of his knowledge, any of the questions on any schedule submitted to him in connection with any census or survey provided for by subchapters I, II, IV, and V of chapter 5 of this title, applying to himself or to the family to which he belongs or is related, or to the farm or farms of which he or his family is the occupant, shall be fined not more than $100.

•(b) Whoever, when answering questions described in subsection (a) of this section, and under the conditions or circumstances described in such subsection, willfully gives any answer that is false, shall be fined not more than $500.

•(c) Notwithstanding any other provision of this title, no person shall be compelled to disclose information relative to his religious beliefs or to membership in a religious body.
Sec. 222. Giving suggestions or information with intent to cause inaccurate enumeration of population

Whoever, either directly or indirectly, offers or renders to any officer or employee of the Department of Commerce or bureau or agency thereof engaged in making an enumeration of population under subchapter II, IV, or V of chapter 5 of this title, any suggestion, advice, information or assistance of any kind, with the intent or purpose of causing an inaccurate enumeration of population to be made, shall be fined not more than $1,000 or imprisoned not more than one year, or both.

Make a copy and put it in with your returned census form....

United States Department of Commerce
Economics and Statistics Administration
U. S. Census Bureau
Washington, DC 20233-0001

To Whom it May Concern,

Pursuant to Article I, Section 2, Clause 3 of the Constitution, the only
information you are empowered to request is the total number of occupants at
this address. Our "names, sexes, ages, dates of birth, races, ethnicities,
telephone numbers, relationships and housing tenures" have absolutely
nothing to do with apportioning direct taxes or determining the number of
representatives in the House of Representatives. Therefore, neither Congress
nor the Census Bureau have the constitutional authority to make that
information request a component of the enumeration outlined in Article I,
Section 2, Clause 3. In addition, I cannot be subject to a fine for basing
my conduct on the Constitution because that document trumps laws passed by
Congress.

Interstate Commerce Commission v. Brimson, 154 U.S. 447, 479 (May 26, 1894)

"Neither branch of the legislative department [House of Representatives or
Senate], still less any merely administrative body [such as the Census
Bureau], established by congress, possesses, or can be invested with, a
general power of making inquiry into the private affairs of the citizen.
Kilbourn v. Thompson, 103 U.S. 168, 190. We said in Boyd v. U.S., 116 U. S.
616, 630, 6 Sup. Ct. 524,?and it cannot be too often repeated,?that the
principles that embody the essence of constitutional liberty and security
forbid all invasions on the part of government and it's employees of the
sanctity of a man's home and the privacies of his life. As said by Mr.
Justice Field, in Re Pacific Ry. Commission, 32 Fed. 241, 250, 'of all the
rights of the citizen, few are of greater importance or more essential to
his peace and happiness than the right of personal security, and that
involves, not merely protection of his person from assault, but exemption of
his private affairs, books, and papers from inspection and scrutiny of
others. Without the enjoyment of this right, all others would lose half
their value.'"

Note: This United States Supreme Court case has never been overturned.

Respectfully,

A Citizen of the United States of America

Actually, just so you know, pursuant to Article 1, Section 2, Clause 3 of the Constitution, there is one little tidbit that creates the loophole for the law requiring us to accurately answer all of the questions on the Census.

"The actual Enumeration shall be made within three Years after the first Meeting of the Congress of the United States, and within every subsequent Term of ten Years, in such Manner as they shall by Law direct."
With "they" being Congress, the people who make the laws.

It gives them great latitude, and the current law has yet to be tested in court. The enumeration is a simple count, and that's what some are hanging onto tightly, but that simple count can be done in any way that Congress says, including requiring you to answer additional questions, as long as Congress passes a law saying so.

The problem of course is that these additional questions violate other parts of the Constitution. And it's gonna take a definitive ruling from the Supreme Court to figure it all out.

In the meantime, I have no problem being hit with the $100 fine.

Tilting after windmills, aren't we? Amazing what some people will get their shorts in a wad about.

I don't know.

A lot of people are just frick'n nuts over it which is getting dumb. I heard a number of comments this morning on the radio but these two comments stood out;

"I refuse to fill it out, it doesn't matter if Obama created this or not, it isn't right"

"I filled it out and put in my electric bill, I hope they pay it"

What I don't like is how it is being done, a lot of waste of money which means no one will be held accountable. Why do we have to have hundreds of ads to tell people to fill it out.

The laughable thing is that this info is not something that they DON'T already have. Just getting a Passport or a FAST card (which two countries now have your info) gives them a lot more info than they will ever get in the census. AND the money is already spent on printing and postage, so fill the thing out and send it in.

I'm just curious about one thing...is there such a thing as a short form this year? If so, how many get that as opposed to that long book?

greg334

Veteran Expediter
What book?

It is three pages.

The community follow up questionnaire is a book and separate issue.

Chef, they - congress - has the right to do this any which way they want. The problem is it is not a big deal - OH MY the government will know who I am, I can't let that happen - seems to be the norm now out of fear. Only if they knew what the government already has all that info.
