20 states have filed petitions to secede

So far, Illinois is not one of them. There are a surprising number of Blue States listed though.

The whole business is just noise anyway, the petitions for the most part have no official backing. If the State of Texas does, indeed, file for secession, that would be something. Disgruntled citizens signing a petition--- not so much. It would have to go to a vote, and I have a suspicion that in a popular vote Texas would vote overwhelmingly to stay in the union.

I agree and think that would be the case with all states. Obama won the Electoral College vote and the popular vote. Even Red States would be hard pressed to find enough kooks to carry a majority on a secession vote. For those who are that unhappy with the recent presidential election results, I say recede, not secede. Mexico and Cuba are due south.

Two petitions have been file to either strip every citizen voting to secede of their citizenship and exile them or deport them .

I agree . Most kooks are Liberals . But when it comes to eligible voters , only 29% voted for Obama . 46% of eligible voters didn't vote .

That may be true but one sure couldn't reach that conclusion from reading this forum.

Does this mean that the lazy 46% will get off their couch and go vote if their state has a secession vote? If they do vote will it be a pro-secession vote?

I live in Florida.
We could vote to secede but then we wouldn't be able to count the votes. :(

I do fully support this one and I think all Americans should get to vote on it:

Peacefully grant the State of California to withdraw from the United States of America and create its own NEW government
:)

Most media outlets have stories prepared ahead of time for those types of situations. Here is one that is already set to go:

Many Injuries as Crouds Rushed the Polls!

It was made clear today that our secession from the U.S. will mean no more Federal entitlements. After this announcement, an estimated 46% of the states population rushed the polls to block the measure.
Lines were up to a mile long; however, there were vendors there to provide food, Cola and Funnel cakes in exchange for food stamps.

Such foolishness! As if signing a petition that a state wants to secede means anything whatsoever! South Carolina's legislature (and a few others) voted to secede once. How'd that work out? About as well as this effort will work out if any state really tries it. Morons!

Two things:

- I think it is pretty cool that the whitehouse.gov site has this feature for people to start and publicize petitions. It's a 1st amendment right of all Americans.
- I think it is also pretty cool--and somewhat hilarious--that people can start a petition there about petitions.

There are 11,697 signatures on the petition to Deport Everyone That Signed A Petition To Withdraw Their State From The United States Of America.

I realized several years ago that a petition to the government is as productive as urinating on a forrest fire and expecting to put it out.

How can a state even consider seceding, when not a damm one of them ever votes for a constitutional convention. No one will stand up to the bully. Not one.

Probably on par with the war protesters, and the tax evaders, and the bussed in bully union people, and those who threatened to leave when Bush was reelected, and the Barbara Streisandites, and the Bruce Springsteeners, and the freezer-stuffing congressmen, naked gay marchers, and the welfare cheaters, and the venomous atheists AND religious folk AND congresspeople. Don't forget the Chris Dodders and the Barney Frankensteins, and the people who wait in line to get that Obama money from his stash. Then you have the communists, and socialists, and marxists, and gimme-dis, and the people who are happy being slaves, and an over-bloated government on a pear tree.
