Wow Turtle you must have met Scott Grenerth who is a flat bedder that wears a Utilikilt everyday. He attends the expo each year and first think I always notice it the kilt and next is that he is at least 7' tall which I think is why he started wearing the Utllikilt. You and him can compare...

We consider ourselves business owners who drive a truck. We enjoy looking like what we are.

I have always and I mean always abhorred wearing a dress or skirt and for that matter dressing up. I like my t-shirts, jeans, sneakers and being comfortable Once we started with FedEx Custom Critical we were soon in uniforms as we liked the recognition and also the ease of washing...

If I was looking at a company those fuel discounts are something I would take into serious consideration. The freight rates would have to be pretty high to make up for the deficit of not having a discount program.

Flat rate vs Percentage dry box. Part 3,456.

I think you can take the work TRY out of this sentence as I have met many people out here on the road who make a good living and have a blast doing it. They have figured out a balance that works for them and are able to obtain both goals have fun and run their butts of when needed.

One thing to take into consideration is fuel discounts. Our fuel discounts are often significant. I used the months of March and May to get my figures for our fuel costs. We were in the process of moving to the new truck in April. Our average per gallon cost of fuel for those two...

    Caffee's Cascadia

Our best so far has been 11.78 using the odometer not the dash readout. The dash readout has had us up in the upper 12's and then we find the wind and we have really been able to find the wind and our readout slowly decreased. The pusher axle does not seem to effect us nearly as much on...

    Caffee's Cascadia

The Cascadia is a heavy truck, but we are still able to run with the pusher up in the air which increases our fuel mileage for most of the time. By reducing our rolling resistance by 1/3 for most of the time. The pusher axle is less drag due to not having the inter axle differential...

Flat rate vs Percentage dry box. Part 3,456.

Pjjjj I agree with you 100% the columns and lines are the same in a fleet owners business as well as ours. The fleet owner and us each must pay the drivers as well as set money back to replace the truck, maintain the truck, and expenses to keep the truck on the road. The difference is the...

    Caffee's Cascadia

We spent HOURS and I do mean hours over the time span of two years working on this issue and "Spec Pro" to get the desired transmission and rear ends... It became an exercise in futility... We worked with engineers from Detroit Diesel as well as Freightliner and Eaton to get everything as...

When we first started I downloaded the OOIDA spreadsheet and I played with our numbers. I used the spreadsheet as a guide to get me started on the right path and they redefined the spreadsheet to fit my needs. Here is the link to OOIDA's spreadsheet with an explanation of each line item...

Flat rate vs Percentage dry box. Part 3,456.

Dave brings up something else to consider is the truck a O/O or is the truck part of a fleet. The truck in a fleet situation is often keeping three families afloat. Our truck is a one truck operation with us the drivers. All money goes into one account.

Flat rate vs Percentage dry box. Part 3,456.

One of the things to consider Dale is if the dead head was authorized or not. Many of us as Jim mentioned go where we think the freight will be and that is not always where the computer picks for our layover. I took our total mileage which was off of the truck odometer taken on January 1st to...

Greg can you tell us a little more on how your company does this and what your dh miles are? I would like to more about what you do and how you do it. I believe getting your figures into a plan like Phil's could be very beneficial.

Thanks A Team, sure hope you were right!

For a surface truck that sounds alright to me. Do you guys have anything extra such as a pallet jack, blankets, corner protectors or anything else to increase your chances of getting accessorial pay? Another way to increase your income is to increase your fuel mileage.

Changing your shift points should increase your fuel mileage if the truck was set up to run heavy which we seldom are.

Truck driver killed in parking lot of TA

One thing I try to especially remind women is to walk away from the front of a truck. When crossing the fuel islands or even walking in front of a row of trucks walk at least five foot out. We are generally shorter than most men and we are hard to see over the hoods or in reality impossible to...

    Ultashift Tune Up?

Treat the transmission for what it is a manual transmission. Check the oil level regularly and Bob is thinking the book says 500,000 miles to have the oil changed. Check in your owners manual for the specifics on the mileage.
