Revisit of the APU 400 lb exemption

Greg, You might want to re-visit the Optima battery idea. They are good batteries but too much money for what they are. In one of my past lives prior to working this business I sold marine stuff, including batteries/chargers etc. To my way of thinking I would buy the Dual-Pro Lighting series...

    DUTY TIME ON DAYS OFF

We drive with FDCC and as long as we are in service the days count. We have often got pre-dispatched on a Fri for a Mon load. Gives us a full weekend to see the sights. We have not got very good at the sight-seeing stuff yet. We are going to try KOA camps etc. We did have a really nice weekend...

    NEW TRUCK vs USED TRUCK

Hi, I am a not so new newbie and would be happy to pass on what little I know. I had the same thoughts when I started, I am sure glad that I did not buy a new truck. The money has been there to make payments on a new truck, no problem with that so far. I decided to drive for an owner. I rode...

    RV Parks/Campgrounds etc.

By all means keep going Phil, I can use any and all help. My wife Jan and I are full time expediters as well. We are with FedEx and run a DR unit. We really enjoy the business but we would enjoy it even more if we can get some quality "country" time. We left the Petro in W. Memphis after she...

    RV Parks/Campgrounds etc.

We have always stayed at truck stops near the layover express center while waiting on a load offer. This time we got pre-dispatched late afternoon on Fri for a Mon pick-up. An entire weekend to outselfs. We would not want to hurt our chances of work by being too far away from the centers while...

    RV Parks/Campgrounds etc.

Great stuff as always. We had this weekend off in North Little Rock. It turned out not to be much fun. First was the motel that did little to live up to it's advertisements. Then the Panhandlers, long walks to resturaunts in areas not to good to be walking in. We really have to get better at...

    RV Parks/Campgrounds etc.

Has anyone ever tried to park at a RV park or campground with a straight truck? Do any allow them? Is there some sort of listing of those places that allow trucks? We would love to layover in the country sometimes, maybe fish or hike. Maybe get a break from the panhandlers etc. This is one of...

    alt fuel

Ah the "T" word, I don't cuss like that. I am sure that they will come up with a way to tax whatever comes out even heavier than what we pay now. Government just hates to see anyone get ahead. It cuts too much into their share.

Thanks, I will look that up. I wonder if corn oil grows algea like bio-diesle does? Just have to know everything. Wonder what would happen in a big truck engine? Also the possible other egde of the sword. If we go to all corn fuel, what would the effects on the enviornment be? The will be a...

    alt fuel

I have heard that Willie Nelson runs pure corn oil in his engines. Is that correct? If so, have they been modified at all? Does corn oil gel and if so at what temp? What kind of milage does it get? I saw in a post that a guy in here knows someone connected with Willie. I think it was...

    what size truck?

Thanks to all, I can see I have a lot to think about. I guess I will most likely go with the "D" unit when the time comes to buy. Then I have to decide reefer or non-reefer. One thing for sure, we like the big sleeper. Might not directly make money but it allows us to *hide* from each other when...

    what size truck?

We are running a DR unit now. Just wondering out loud I guess. Seems like we run ALOT of small/light loads. I most likely will go with a D when we do buy but that will be a while yet. Need to get more money together and a bit more experience under our belts. We plan on going to MATS and see what...

    what size truck?

Well people, I have been at this since last May. I have learned alot but not enough yet, that is, if you can ever learn enough. First thing I learned, this is a riot!! Most fun I have ever had. Second, I can earn a good solid living. Won't get rich but it beats the tar out of retail. Third, I...

    reefer B units?

I guess that I have seen two different ones then. One was a Sprinter and one was on a Chevy platform. Was just wondering. I drive a D unit but records show that 80% of the loads would fit either on a B or C. Just thinking ahead when I go to buy my own truck. SOOOO much to learn about this business.

    reefer B units?

I have seen some B units over the past few months that appear to have reefer units on the roof. I thought they might be just aux air in the cargo box but they seem to be to big for that. I thought I read that Fyda was producing a reefer sprinter as well. All the units I have seen with these...
