I think you will find they offer more enjoyment when used at home:D

One thing for sure it is expensive to switch carriers. With that said, I find that most operating at that rate (1.12 per mile) or less consistently, are one breakdown away from something ugly. This is where knowing your real cost to operate is so important.

I guess it would depend on what those "perks" are. They would have to be pretty significant. Based on 1.12 rate and a .36 FSC, at least half of your revenue is going in the fuel tank. Not at almost 5.00 a gallon. Making alittle money, but not much. One would have to have some major miles and...

Not doable for an average with fuel at current prices. .36 FSC for a straight is too low. Still below the national index based on current prices. Should be about .41. Add that to only a 1.12 base rate and it isn't workable if there is any DH at either end of the run.

Don't know on their vans or TT's, but a $1.12 a mile average on a straight would be a total deal breaker for me. Too much freight including plain LTL that pays better.

    Cat Valve Lash Setting

I would agree to have Cat perform that service. You change in gears can be done at the same time unless there is a warranty concern. On that part you can have Allison make any transmission adjustments.

    FedEx or Panther

OVM, That is pretty funny actually. All seriousness aside, Panther you can do pretty much what you want. If you don't like their load, book your own. As far as Elite services, they are are growing and WG at the Fed isn't. If so, they would be adding trucks and business. If you have a...

    Pressure Washers

Phil, Probably could have eliminated half the posts had you mentioned what your intent was. Since it is a trucking site, ones first thought would likely be that is was going to be used for a truck. We have one but have only used it on a truck maybe half a dozen times at best...

    Panther Receives Landstar Award

Don't know how many Landstar trucks are sitting empty but I know we do loads for them. Some are from Panther and some are brokered. As long as they pay it is just another opportunity.

Has Anyone Bought a New Truck This Year?

Part of the reason Cat opted out of the truck engine business. Not sure what to expect in 2010 or 2012. Just like this year, we likely won't know until it is here.

    VW to build in Tennessee

Sounds good to me. Corker said when he got elected he was bringing a lot of jobs with him. So far he seems to be delivering on what he said. Kinda rare in politics these days.

Has Anyone Bought a New Truck This Year?

I really feel for you. That whole program had disaster written all over it. They didn't then, and still don't have enough qualified techs to even work on them. Part of the reason we went the route we did. The other annoying factor is that many weren't tested for longevity except in controlled...

Has Anyone Bought a New Truck This Year?

UPS did a test on these. Currently, they wouldn't really be applicable to a OTR operation. UPS study on this program http://www.nrel.gov/vehiclesandfuels/fleettest/pdfs/31227.pdf

Has Anyone Bought a New Truck This Year?

I believe (myself included) purchased their pre-emissions trucks last year. Current rebates don't come anywhere close enough to compensate for the reduced mileage, lack of available service, downtime/loss of revenue, and current reports indicating many heat related problems form the DPF setup...

    help support offshore oil drilling

GW wanted drilling in his first term. He warned that we would be in this situation back then. Dems and the emvironmentalists shut him down. They were too worried he and Cheney might make money off of it.

What Does This Mean to You?

Has our business changed? Yep. Business model is different as costs to operate have changed. Basically, what we may have considered a year ago as a profitable load, may not be this year. Operating expenses are higher, so like others, we have to operate within our margins...

    Impeach harry reik

That was kinda my point. Fuel prices didn't start climbing until the Congress was ran by the democrats. Seems like that gets overlooked by a few.

    Impeach harry reik

I don't think this is something you can lay at Bush's feet. He was pushing for drilling years ago. But, the democrats put every obstacle they could in the way because they were too worried that Bush/Cheney might make a profit off of it. That isn't exactly a secret. Look at what Congress is...
