    Bid Boards

They call them "partner carriers." The originating carrier basically acts as a brokerage to you.

    Food for Thought

I think you have hit the nail on the head. That's the rose-colored glasses. I checked with Con-way not too long ago about hauling a non time-definite LTL (4 skids, about 6000 lbs) from Orlando to Los Angeles Metro area. About 2210 miles. Their discounted price was like $6250. Their original...

    Joke of the day

I guess I was thinking of a van and not a straight truck on that, Dave. But you are right, cuz it's a goos chance of deadhead comin' out.

    Joke of the day

Well, I just tell them that that's a great price for the first 300 miles. What do you want for the delivery? That's even a cheap price for an LTL. I would only even consider helping someone like that if I was already going to Yuma or Calexico. But that would be for a load that didn't need to...

    Food for Thought

Hey Phil, A lot of those services offered are 3PL: 3rd Party Logistics. When Exact Express has a long distance expedited load, just guess what they do? They call LEAM, Bolt, C & M, and Panther. When they have a load that would be construed as a "mini", they call local cartage companies such...

Excellent point. There is no "mommy culture" involved when it comes to finding your own loads.

    Sleeping on the floor

I guess when I get that 12K run from Cleveland to L.A. I admit I'd have to rethink it a bit. Until then, no extra riders in the cab

My wife rescued this newspaper just now, before my dog peed on it. It's very profound.;)

In your opinion who are the 5 largest expedite carriers?

Panther is not that big anymore. Last year they were touting themselves as the largest fleet after the Con Way buyout, but from looking at the Safer report, they're back to about the same size they were before the buyout. A lot of the Con-way peeps stayed less than six months.

    Sleeping on the floor

You already got a bunch of answers when you asked this just three months ago. http://www.expeditersonline.com/forum/general-expediter-forum/29859-how-far-will-you-go.html Personally, no courier sets foot in my truck. They drive their own vehicle to the destination following me.

    Fleet owner observation

On a serious note, there really are two things to consider: Return On Investment and Creature Comforts. Not bad to have some creature comforts in the biz. My next truck will have at least a couple. Gotta make the wife comfy, ya know. But creature comforts subtract from your ROI, THEY DON'T...

What are the costs of rebuilds?

Sounds like good advice to me. There are a lot of dealers who outsource that stuff to the engine shops anyways. Take it to the people who specialize in the very thing you need.

In your opinion who are the 5 largest expedite carriers?

As of 2/19/2008, Panther is reporting 916 units and 1400 drivers. Looks like their kind of back to where they were.

In your opinion who are the 5 largest expedite carriers?

Very true. In the top section by the address and such, you will see a date for their last update.

In your opinion who are the 5 largest expedite carriers?

FMCSA..... It is useful, just not exact as far as numbers go. You have to update it within so much time if your info changes, ie. address, insurance and such. Here's the other search engine they have. You can make sure that any carrier OR broker is legitimate and their insurance or bond is...

In your opinion who are the 5 largest expedite carriers?

Carriers are only required to file a biennial update. Some data could be almost 2 years old.
