Just look in the classifieds. Three repoed straight trucks on EO in the last couple of days. Called on three different trucks in the last week. Two of them had a brother sitting next to them at the dealer. All fleet repos. However, I must admit that that ain't necessarily from fuel costs...

It's funny. On the east coast, a bobtail is a tractor w/o a trailer attached. On the west coast, (as well as Texas it seems), a bobtail is a box truck. DOH!!

Here's another thought: What if your carrier decides to take part in the strike and leaves you sitting in Timbuktu in the snow for 5 days, regardless of your own plans? "Sorry, we're on strike. We're not accepting any freight for the next several days....."

Just remember: When all you leased folks shut down and then get a notice in a few weeks that your lease has been terminated, you'll have plenty of time to sit around.

Great idea. It would be easier to hire sales people in different regions to tap into unexplored markets. It would allow them to be close to new customers on a daily basis.

Ok, Cheri. Yes, OVM did mention whiney drivers, but I thought several of us DID answer the question. I have no gripe w/ you. here's how I answer the question of what I would do if I was the carrier. I AM THE CARRIER AND I DO MAKE THE RULES. I am the dispatcher, the accountant, the fleet...

True. But you don't need to own a fleet OR lease on a bunch of folks to be your own carrier and do well.

Here's a thought: Get your own authority. Then you WILL be the carrier. You get to deal with other carriers, brokers and shippers.
