    Waiting in Houston

I've been home since late Friday night, in service since yesterday, still waiting...Cleveland is usually a good area to get out of, (and I mean that sincerely), but sometimes overrun with units. Welcome to the forum, Snowball! PS How do you know it's a pretty bad load offer? When dispatch says...

On the road with wireless internet service

Diane, I believe my DSL through ATT is $35 per month. The bill is so complicated, with the phone line, long distance, etc, that it's hard to tell, lol, but I'm pretty sure the DSL is $35 - the best deal I could find. Like others, when on the road, I often find Wifi for free, though, which is why...

    Best Teams, Worst Teams

Pelicn, I agree, you learn more by listening, but I'd add that you learn most by sharing thoughts & ideas, because the feedback is valuable. Please post your thoughts & ideas, too - sure, you risk disagreement, but you also get validation, and that's a good thing. THawk, that Curly was...

    Union Update!

I think Doc's post above should settle this, once and for all.

How many alias's does one need and why????

My guess is that it would be caused by the knowledge that when some people create a new identity to post, you don't know who you're talking to - and I want to know who I'm talking to. Dieselphreak pointed out that private messaging is here for those things that are private, so I don't really see...

What ever happened to pride & integrity!

Leo, I agree that there should be a strict "no smoking" rule in place for new trucks. We smokers can indulge during our bathroom & meal breaks, so it's not an undue hardship. For myself, I have an ashtray/butt extinguisher in one cupholder, and NEVER toss cigarettes out the window. (I learned...

On the road with wireless internet service

My choice is ATT Wifi - available at nearly all McDonalds, UPS Stores, Barnes & Noble bookstores, & a bunch of others I don't pay attention to, because McDonalds are at nearly every exit, & it works in the parking lot, so I don't have to go inside. I had a one year contract for $19.95 a month...

    Rumsfeld resigns

Greg, I'm not well informed, just trying to get enough information to make up my own mind, is all. I'm sure that most journalism students, & academics are liberal, because that's the personality type that would be attracted to those fields - but that doesn't make everything they say wrong, does...

    Think You Know Everything? (Funy)

I still don't know everything - but now I know more cool stuff! :)

    new tires etc etc

Wombat, that is an excellent idea! I hope some of the carrier reps will take that ball & run with it - they could be helpful and make a bit of profit for themselves, doing it. :)

    Cherry Picking?

RE: Cherry Picking? / Star Trek loads Graybeard, I don't know if you've raised any kids, but working with dispatch is the same in one regard: pick your battles. If you expend energy getting bent out of shape over every little thing, you will be too tired to fight the really important issues...

    Canada Crossing the line...

Ms Perillo, I don't know when you came on board, but you are so welcome! I've heard a lot of good things about you, and was looking forward to attending your seminar at the Expo - and quite disappointed when circumstances prevented you from arriving. Next time, for sure! Meantime, thank you for...

A note on unions (not related to trucking!)

The way I see it, the union exists to get the best pay, benefits, & working conditions it can for the members. If management has set such a standard of overpayment for themselves, they can't expect the union, or the workers to settle for peanuts - of course they're going to shoot for the moon...

    Abbreviation aggravation

I've been forced to learn how to use the GPS feature with Streets & Trips, on my laptop, but I really don't like doing it. I'm worried that I'll be enjoying watching the little Monopoly vehicle follow the highlighted road onscreen, while the one I'm driving is heading for a tree, or suddenly...

Watch when they claim they are Christian owners

RE: Watch when they claim they are Christian owner I left the Christian aspect out, because that was just adding insult to injury, (on the owner's part), and prevention of insults is more than even the wisdom here can claim, mostly - but Lawrence has a sig line that covers it: "Going to church...

A note on unions (not related to trucking!)

Ooooh, good one, Rich! Having friends in high places doesn't hurt either... I'm almost glad that I don't own any stock - seems like a good way to lose everything, these days.:-(

    Rumsfeld resigns

My point was that the administration screams bloody murder about leaks, while ignoring their own use of tbe technique. If CocaCola can keep their formula secret, why can't the United States Government keep secrets? I find it incredible that The New York Times could break the law with impunity...

    Safety First

Race, do you have to wear a patch over it? If you do, get a black one - you can say you're gonna be in the next "Pirates" movie. Or, you could say someone was speaking a foreign language in a public place, and you tapped them on the shoulder, and politely asked them to "press 2 for English"...

Watch when they claim they are Christian owners

RE: Watch when they claim they are Christian owner If you want to place all the blame on that admittedly terrible owner, you might want to consider your own negligence in the situation: not using common sense! Sorry to be so harsh, but when you take a total stranger at their word, you risk...

    Abbreviation aggravation

I just read a post that used the abbreviation "rt 70", referring to I 70. (Note to Silverdollar: please don't take it personally, it was just the example that's handy to illustrate my point) We could sure use some agreement on standard abbreviations - to me, "rt" could be US, state, or county...
