    Ready To Roll

There are a few companies that will let you drive with a permit. I don't know if Panther will let you do that anymore, though they did a number of years back. Also, check with Scott (X1-SRH on here) from Express-1.

    Looking 2 Drive!

What you could do is take an hour or two with either an examiner or an instructor at a trucking school to go over the inspection with you. Most likely, they'll have a cheatsheet with a diagram of the truck pointing out the inspection points. Good luck!

Do you see anything screwy here?

Thanx Neverhome... that sounds like very sound advice. I'm guessing if it is an actual stretch job that is too far forward, I could pay to move it back a bit. What would a move like that run? And where would you get yours done? What do you think would be an optimal weight for the front? T-hawk

Do you see anything screwy here?

I was told by the salesman that it has dollies. I was trying to find another tractor that was extended that far just to compare pictures. I haven't found one yet. But after hearing your advise, I'm thinking of just looking elsewhere. The price seemed too good to be true... though I thought that...

Do you see anything screwy here?

I'm looking at this truck to buy. My wife and I noticed the wheels are an awful lot forward on the box. I read on another site that a longnose Pete on the front of his straight 8 made it so virtually nothing could go toward the front of the box because the front axle weight was maxed. Do you...

    Knoxville TN ?

There's a recent post about that in the recruiter's forum where someone was asking where in the southeast would be the best place to relocate. Knoxville is a good area if you're looking at the south. Indianapolis is an area that's pretty easy to get out of. I've had luck anywhere in Ohio and...

    Panthers II

since you have your cdl A, why aren't you using it? There's good money in E-loads... companies are starting to get overloaded with vans

    relocation, where to?

NB... just to let you know... the difference in Asheville and Johnson City are night and day as far as cost of living. Mountain property is probably 10 times as much once you cross the border into NC. Johnson City has one of the lowest cost of living rates in the US. Not trying to talk you into...

    Curious -- have questions.

Being that figure is an average of ALL D-units, that includes white glove. Take them out of the equation and you're looking at alot less.

    expedited or ltl

In your situation, I would look into Landstar Express. From what I understand, their system allows you to choose where you go according to their loadboard. Talk to a recruiter though. I don't think their website has everything down that you should know. Hope that helps. T-hawk

    relocation, where to?

I'm looking at Johnson City, myself, because of the mountains (though it's only just east of Knoxville). But a great place would be the Knoxville area as I-75 and I-40 run thru, and it's a major corridor for freight. I like Chattanooga also, as it's right smack in the middle of Knoxville and...

    intro and industry questions

Being that you're a former OTR driver, I would like to make one problem you guys face. The few OTR drivers I've talked to were used to constantly moving. That's not the case in expediting. There's alot more sitting... sometimes days. I just hope you're not expecting to jump into a truck and...

    The Magic Words....

Scott, one thing I would like to see is this... My driver got a call the other day asking if he'd like to go to Arizona. Of course he said yes. So the dispatcher told him he was working on it. Well, there was never a return call saying we were outbid. He spent a few hours waiting for a return...

Now I'm not sure if expediting is the way to go.

RE: Now I'm not sure if expediting is the way to g Hmmm... since you are both business owners, I would think you've "taken your business elsewhere", or "couldn't use them anymore", "you're finding someone who can fill your expediting needs better." Kinda reminds me of something: 'E's not...

How long do you wait before switching companys??

RE: How long do you wait before switching companys I know... what's another month? You could wait and switch over in the middle of the low period and not know if it's better than your current company or not. Or, you could go to this new company and get an idea of what to expect when freight...

How long do you wait before switching companys??

RE: How long do you wait before switching companys He's not saying he had a rough week... he had a rough first month. I believe if a company has a problem giving their newbies some miles in the first month, you can see worse later on. I understand it's slower in December, but he is talking...
