    The Hino 338

The fact that there are a dis-proportionate amount of Hino's tells me a lot of people are buying them and then turning them in fairly quick. They haven't been around long enough for there to be a lot of high mile used stuff at the auction. Auction trucks can also be problem children, dealers...

    The Hino 338

Ark and Thib are both right, you can't use a truck meant for city delivery in expedite and expect it to work well for any length of time. Even the lil ole M2 has been engineered to take it (there is a severe service 112 model that uses that cab). The list of problems presented above also point...

    Driving Music

Opie and Anthony in the mornings 6-11 ish. CNBC or Ron and Fez in the early afternoon (once the price of oil fell below 120 I could listen to CNBC without getting depressed), it's good background noise. At night, XM 48, a bit of Kevin on 171. If I feel a bit groggy, I have Shinedown's latest...

    Fondest Trucking Memory

Was 15 and driving up north with my dad, after we stopped for lunch he threw me the keys. I've had a very hard time staying out from behind the wheel since. BTW, you don't have to be a newbie to have Moots "door" experience. I did that last month with a rental truck.

    Mercedes 6-speed auto shift

Only failures I've seen with these units have been due to lack of maintenance and the wrong oil. I didn't have any in any fleet I managed so that knowledge is second hand.

    Tropical Storm/Hurricane Fay

It's my twice yearly "redneck sabbatical". Gotta get a re-charge now and again!!! What better way to do it than with 165,000 others who share my "religion".

    Aircell

Don't waste your money, it's another spiral intake device. They don't work on diesels and it's pretty shaky on a gasser.

    What months are really busy?

July started slow for me and wound up being my second best month ever. August is likely going to be the worst month ever. I had planned for a slow summer thanks to what I read on here!

    toyota

Toyota has an in house trucking company called Transfreight. They have big terminals in Cambridge and now Woodstock ON. I think the US HQ is in Erlanger KY, not 100% sure. At the Honda plant in Alliston ON I have seen PII trucks.

Looks like SCR will be very Common

All engines made after Jan 1 2010 need to meet the new law. That likely means trucks built after March 2010.

Looks like SCR will be very Common

Does this mean we actually WANT this technology? Don't know about you but I want it! Greg, I'm hearing the dosing rate will be anywhere from 2 to 5% depending on the engine load and engine configuration. Each engine will still use some EGR and if you use more EGR you would need less fluid. I...

Looks like SCR will be very Common

There aren't any published costs yet although in Europe apparently the benefits are far greater than the cost, mind you they pay 8 bucks a gallon for fuel too. Dunno about the pee thing....maybe eat a bunch of high spice beef jerky for your own high performance blend? I see a new business...

Looks like SCR will be very Common

OK...Phil asked so here goes!!:D Up until now, engine makers have been dealing with emission challenges by modifying combustion in the cylinder to achieve the desired result. Basically they have 2 main issues to deal with, particulate matter (sooty black exhaust) and NOx (oxides of nitrogen)...

Looks like SCR will be very Common

For the next round of engine emissions it looked like there was going to be a bit of a war going to happen between engine manufacturers who were going to use SCR (Detroit,Volvo,Mack,Paccar branded engines, Cummins Light duty) and those who were going to rely on even higher rates of EGR (Cummins...
